Liu Xiang's injury

I feel for this guy. He was the "face" of the Beijing Olympics, and he had to walk away from the track because of a bad Achilles.

I've dealt with that myself. There are few injuries that are as painful as a sore Achilles -- it's weight-bearing tendon and is put under a tremendous amount of stress with every step.

There were some days the pain was so bad, it brought tears to my eyes.

It saddens me that Liu Xiang doesn't get to race in his home country, in front of his home fans.

It could not have been a more poetic end for him. Achilles.

I'm not a sports physician, but I, and probably a billion others, are wondering why this happened to him. IIRC, he withdrew from a competiton in May due to a hamstring. I don't know if it was the same achilles that is inflammed.

I do know that they have known about this for some time. And I'm afraid that the Chinese sports physicians are about ready to come under fire - with a blindfold.

China Gold Fever is hurting tonight. He is their Jordan. State TV signed off with: "Liu Xiang, our message to you is this: We will forever be with you."

UPDATE: (It was the same right leg)

we were watching it here and some of the secretaries started crying.

the dude made 23m USD last year in endorsements. I bet he will be ok.

Whatever, it can't be that bad.

I'd trade my right leg for his any day since I completely ruptured mine in April. Sore achilles? Ha! He's a whiny *****.
