May be going up to LR for the NCAA tournament games in March. Looking for recommendations on were to watch the games on the off day (bars, restaurants, not necessarily sports bars). Also any other restaurant/bar recommendations for a 40-something guys'-weekend-out trip. Probably staying in West LR.

For a good steak, try either Sonny Williams Steak House or Doe's Eat Place. Sonny's is more your classical steak house while Doe's has a more Southern flare. You have two steak choices there: 1.5 or 2 pounds. They also have great tamales to go with the steaks. They're both downtown in the River Market District.

Don't know much about sports bars.

I'm heading up for the games too. A sports bar that I found on the internet that looks promising is the West End Smokehouse & Tavern. They have a large projection screen, which I assume will be tuned to the games, plus smaller sets. It is located on N. Shackleford Road.

A restaurant I have been to is Corkey's. It is a Memphis BBQ rib house that opened a LR location. The ribs were indeed yummy. It is also on the west side of LR. I'll be staying out on the west side because it is newer, with lots of restaurants, etc.. Some areas of LR can get pretty seedy. There is also a Whole Foods in the west area in case you just want to pick up some chow rather than going to restaurants all the time. We're going to get a suite with a kitchen so we can hang out in the room and watch some games there comfortably, and cook up some simple chow for a few meals. Have a great time in LR; it'll be a fun trip talking smack with pigs again.

DeadHorse speaks the truth. Doe's has some of the best steaks I've ever tasted and Sonny William's cooks an effin mean Porterhouse. Another place to try is The Faded Rose. If you go to Doe's or Faded Rose be sure to warm up with the marinated salad. You won't be sorry. As far as Nightlife goes, check out Sticky Fingers and Juanita's for some Austin-like atmosphere. The potheads run rampant in this state.

good suggestions so far. DO NOT miss Doe's. Hamburger steak, tamales, catfish. southern goodness.

Faded Rose is a good spot.

There's some bar that overlooks the Arkansas River with a bunch of decks (sorta like a poor man's Oasis). Good spot, tvs, chicks, etc. River Market area downtown is always a good spot. The bar where McFadden got busted is down there.

Good call on Juanita's too. pretty decent Tex Mex.
