Lilley VanderZee

Saw her at the advanced camp. did a very short summary of what I saw. I really liked her energy and willingness to mix it up inside. I think, if iirc, that she was named MVP of the camp.

Welcome, Lilley!

That's very interesting news. With Texas currently having a full roster for 2012-13 and 2013-14, I was wondering if we would be able to sign anyone for the 2013 class. With VanderZee's commitment, I guess there is an expected early departure by one of the current players; perhaps somone is graduating early.

Other 2013 players I thought we were recruiting included Kelsey Lang of The Woodlands; the forward from Louisiana; and Roshunda Johnson from Arkansas. My guess is we are done for the 2013 recruiting class with VanderZee.

my guess is that at least Lang, Johnson and Tyler Scaife are still in play as well. My feeling is that we take two for 2013 to replace Terry and Adams.

2014 is really going to be the important year for recruiting with so many ships available and such a deep class both in Texas and nationally.

Welcome, Lilley! It really is hard to figure out the roster situation as this point; I guess we're just going to have wait and see how things play out. Obviously someone else will have to depart, or perhaps not use their full eligibility, to make room for Lilley. That's why I tend to agree with Moooooo and say we're done for 2013. If we sgin anyone else it would mean additional losses to the current roster, and that would likely have to occur before November when most 2103 recruits will have made their choice. I just can't see multiple players leaving in the next 4-5 months, but I could be wrong. As Babhorn points out, 2014 is going to be huge; at this point we could have as many as eight openings in that class. And I don't see that changing much even if more current players leave; the current sophs will have graduated and won't impact the 2014 class either way.

Nice player, but based on what i've seen, not looking for her to big a bigtime Big 12 player. More of a roll player, but you have to have those too. At least she won't have to deal with Griner by the time she gets to Texas.

The numbers just aren't there (at the moment) for additional signees for the 2013 class; my guess is that Kayla Brewer could gradute early. I believe when she enrolled at South Carolina she was already classified as a sophomore after taking college courses (or receiving college credits) while still attending high school. Think she has aspriations to go to law school; so, if she does graduate earlier than expected, that could lead to curtailing her collegiate basketball career. And, that would be the opening for Vanderzee.

I recall that PG Roshunda Johnson was supposed to visit Texas unofficially around June 1; not sure that ever happened. With Rodrigo, Roberts, and even Davenport able to play the point (and still around for 2013-14), I just don't see us taking another PG for the 2013 class; plus, if we are pursuing 2014 PG Recee Caldwell and are in the running, it might be best to hold that PG slot for a 2014 enrollee.

As for 2013 Kelsey Lang, with her being at the summer camp, you know she has an interest in Texas; hard to tell if Vanderzee took the lone frontcourt scholarship availabe, though. But, since we have a European JUCO coming in this coming season, there's no way of knowing if her plans are to stay 2 seasons at Texas or perhaps focus on international ball sooner than we as fans would expect. So, anything could happen when it comes to different reasons for upcoming attrition.

It appears that Cokie Reed will not be playing next season even though she has a red shirt year. Earlier this week she tweeted that this is her last year playing ball and then will be moving on.

It's also possible that one or more of our current players may be placed on medical scholarships depending on their recovery from illness/surgery.

I believe what 05Longhorn meant to say, or may have meant to say is that Cokie won't be playing in 2013-14, and that the coming season will be her last with the team. In other words, she won't use her RS year. I don't think he/she meant to say she wouldn't be playing this Fall...hopefully that's just a mis-statement. But perhaps 05Longhorn, or someone else, can clarify?
