Lil Wayne first to sell a million since 2005

In todays day and age thats absolutely incredible.

Its been a year since I last bought a cd.....and now that I think about it, it was actually the last Lil Wayne album.

The Carter III is pretty damn good.

If the music business was still working, if you can ever say it did work, "Shooter" off the Carter II should have been a giant crossover hit like "Hey Ya."

I don't know if y'all are serious about having never heard of Lil Wayne, but I have honestly never heard of 90% of the bands that are mentioned on here for various reasons, even in "album or song of the year" threads.

I only know of him because my friend shot his friend "Birdman" for a magazine or CD coming out. Of course he apparently is the one who gave us "Bling Bling" so I should have heard of him earlier.

that the "Tha Carter III" has sold well is more of a testament to someone's marketing strategy than the strength of the album. Releasing all of those free mixtapes apparently enticed a LOT of people into buying his "real" release, which pretty much sucks. the whole genre is in a pretty sorry state these days.

The extent to which he rips off Kool Keith/Dr. Octagon is embarrassing.

It's pretty much a bust from the second track, where Jay Z whips Lil' Wayne's *** on a cameo.

I enjoyed Drought 3 so much that I went ahead and put $10 down, but the new album pretty much blows.

He's got a verse about VY on the new album (can't remember the track). Something like "And you ain't Vince Young, so don't clash with the titan..." That alone makes it a great album. But yeah it's just ok.

i wasn't a lil wayne fan before hearing that song, but now i'm even less of one.

Ah, whatever. I should have known better than to come on a message board and say something was cool instead of slagging it off.

To me, that song sounds like Sly Stone meets the Beatles in New Orleans. But what do I know? I am just a freshly retired music critic.
