I read they resigned him to practice squad.
I was watching, I think, the 2005 Kansas game. Nessler, I believe it was, noted that Mack Brown had never had a player leave early. VY was the first to do so. Imagine what could have been of the 2006 season, not to mention his draft prospects following a very likely Heisman and repeat NC winning season.Maybe this will make players think twice about leaving early. It seems most who leave early are busts for the most part.
After they get cut, they essentially become a free agent. Teams often have hopes of resigning some of those cuts, but sometimes they go elsewhere (like with Doss in Oakland who Gruden wanted on the Practice Squad but who went to Jacksonville, on the practice squad). They made him resign?

Instead, we know now he had a mediocre pro career and troubles otherwise. And, with apologies to @NOLATiger80for starting that with a conjunction, but not really though, I can't think of any others, Jamaal Charles being a possible exception, who have left early and had great success in the NFL.

I agree. As you may imagine, I love Vince. Flawed as he is.@VYFan, my point was he would have likely ended up somewhere other than Tennessee and may have had more success in terms of playoffs and/or championships. No fair minded person, 30-17 aside, would really say VY had a great NFL career.
He has technical problems with his catching and separation off the line. These are coachable skills. Top speed will not change. He wasn't going to get any faster.
His skill set is what it is.
I just thought it was a typo for "reassigned" to the practice squad.
The only two early departure i can think of that were real successes were Thomas and Charles, Jefferson might end up working out but if you had told him he wasn't going to go in the first two rounds I am not sure he would have left early like he did.
