Like Aggy, Mizzou Whoring Itself to SEC

Mizzou is gone unless the current members agree to a long-term (think 25 years) agreement with respect to tier 1 and 2 rights.

Mizzou is gone.

Time to add:

BYU
Louisville
West Virginia
Cincy or TCU
Tulane
Rice

I think the Big 12 should stop at 14 (become the Big14).

Tulane averages 20 thousand fans per game.

They are TCU with better academics and a better "away" location.

Our home game schedule with suck wth TCU, Tulane, ISU, Kansas, Kansas State etc... littering it.

I am sure that the folks in the SEC will not appreciate being referred to as a back up plan to the Big 10. (paraphrasing: "We REALLY wanted to join the Big 10, but they have no interest in us, so I guess we'll just join the SEC - that's whats left...") Yeah - I am sure that the best football conference in America will love being considered second fiddle by freaking MISSOURI! Here is the SEC's predicted response.... (paraphrasing, of course) "F U Mizzoo"

i really dont think mizzou ends up in the SEC.

i think this is round two of their poor attempt at posturing/whoring themselves out for a big 10 invite.

The Big 12 is a boring *** conference with or without Mizzou and none of the proposed additions do a whole lot for me in terms of adding excitement. Sure, most of the schools mentioned have had more recent success than the schools that have bolted but it's still not all that exciting to play Cincinnati. It would be downright boring to have Rice, TCU, Tulane, et al.
And what the hell is the SEC doing? They are supposedly trying to add TV's but they are adding programs that water down their product which will ultimately create less interest. They used to mention schools like Fla State, Miami, Clemson, Ga Tech and instead they're getting Texas A&M and Missouri???? Bad, bad play.

ATM is a good add for the SEC. Decent in football and basketball. Big fan base, in a populated state. Mizz would be a drop off, but we'll have to see who if anyone the SEC adds.

Now this list of terrible teams of:
BYU
Louisville
West Virginia
Cincy or TCU
Tulane
Rice

Is a joke. There's not one team on that list worth a sheet of used toilet paper. Thankfully we don't have idiots like that working at UT, or so we can hope.

Texas has been whoring around a bit, too, with the PAC and ACC.

And we may be whoring to the SEC in the near future ourselves.

Either them or the B1G, I suspect.

I don't understand the Mizzou situation. If things are going down as reported, they, Mizzou, are writing a thesis on how not to change conferences. Are they really this inept..?

Golden Steer -- I agree that list is a joke. Any time you are replacing Nebraska, aTm, CU and Missou with mid-majors (including some truly awful mid-majors) you are losing. The Big 12 "product" will decline dramatically if that comes to pass.

The problem is this: what are the other options? Any good replacement option from a nearby state -- i.e. Arky, LSU, Iowa, etc -- would be STUPID to leave their current conferences for the moribund Big 12. The Big 12 is unstable, it lacks the population to drive TV revenue (the low end teams make far less $ than Pac 12, B1G or SEC), and the product sucks.

So, while I agree those replacements suck, that is where they will come from if UT insists on holding the league together in order to keep the LHN. Had we not c--k-blocked OU's effort to get to the Pac 12 (which I am sure earned us much loyalty with them), the league would already be dead.

So here are the options:

1. Replace the departing flagship institutions with mid-major retreads, and establish the big 12 as the 5th best 12+ team conference, or

2. Pull the plug.

There is no path to getting back to being one of the best conferences given the replacement options out there. Once you water down the league with the likes of BYU, TCU, Tulane, etc, the TV revenue will be renegotiated down, the recruiting will become more difficult (who wants to play road games in stadiums with 20k fans?), and the product will continue to decline.

OU will take the first ticket out of town when it becomes clear that that is the road we are on. Then we either join them (in the Pac 12 or, ugh, SEC), bolt solo to the B1G, or go Indy.

With or without Mizzo the Big 12 is the second best FB conference. CU and A&M leaving is not a downgrade with TX, OU, OSU in the mix and KSU, BU ranked, Forget A&M after Tech this weekend they are SEC bound.

Compare Big 12 to that powerhouse to the north with WIS and NEB as the two division leaders. WIS killed NEB just as NEB fared in the Big 12 so goodby.

The Pac 12 has OR, STAN and nobody else. Can anybody in the remaining PAC 12 beat Boise State or OKie Lite? USC lost to ASU which Mizzo took to OT. ASU lost to Illinois.

Adding A&M and Mizzo to the SEC is watering down the product by not adding the Top 2-3 teams from Big 12, ACC or Big East. Enjoy A&M or Mizzo as much as KY, MIss or Vandy on your conf schedule. FSU, VT, Miami, Clem and GT are staying in ACC.

The B1G 2nd Tier BTN is 51% B1G and 49% FOX thru 2031.

The SEC pays $18.5M this year and it looks like Big 12 will pay $20M without a new Tier 1 contract. New Fox Tier 2 kicks in 2012 and the Big 12 will be in position to redo/extend the Tier 1 with ESPN that ends in 2015 now rather than get into a bid war with NBC/Comcast, FOX or CBS etc for the only BCS conference not tied down to long term TV contracts. thru 2023.

Big 12 3rd Tier rights were $28M in 2009 before LHN and OU will have SoonerVision up and running in 2012.

Big 12 content is much superior to the PAC 12 content and is much desired by ESPN and they will pay equal or more to the PAC 12 deal to keep their control of CFB from their rivals.

The Big 12 is in play in a much bigger game of CFB television and I believe that ESPN knew what they were doing when they paid $300M for just the LHN.

Nineas, DeLoss and Joe C know what the intact Big 12 is worth to ESPN and will make it a viable longterm conference.

Expand to 12 to get a CCG and get a regular Big 12 ooc game at JerryWorld in Sept and ESPN will pay big to keep Big 12 in the TV family rather than compete with FOX, NBC/Comcast or CBS. Mich is getting $4.7M from JerryWorld for one game.
