Light Machine Oil

I just bought a hedge trimmer and it says to lubricate it with light machine oil before using it. What is light machine oil and if I have some WD-40, would that work? Thanks in advance.

If it says to use light machine oil, then I'd probably go with that if you want to maintain the trimmer properly. WD-40 is less viscous than L.M.O. In a pinch you could probably use WD-40, but I wouldn't recommend it, especially for the first time.

Thanks Badger. Is LMO something I can get at ACE hardware or something? I couldn't find anything called that at the grocery store or at Target.

I would think hardware or auto parts stores would have it. I think L.M.O. is used on things like sewing machines and bikes too, so if you have one of those around the house, you might already have some oil to use.

Preface - I have no expertise in such things, but am impressed with this stuff, maybe hard to find. My ex-employer supplied us... somehow it found its way to my utlility room.

It is great stuff, as long as your application allows direct application - not like it will run down a shaft, from a access hole or something.
