LifeLock guy has identity stolen

that is complete greatness....what sucks is some a-hole lawyer is going to profit because people that signed up for the service are too stupid to prevent their own identity theft themselves....identity theft really sucks but it isnt the end of the world, there are measures to correct the issue...it is a real pain in the *** but it is fixable...unfortunately, they should have stricter penalties for people that do this sort of thing...personally, i am for the death penalty, i guarantee you that would be a preventive measure, but people are willijng ot take the risk for the 2-5 year vacation.

There isn't one thing that you just wrote, general, that I agree with other than it's greatness that this happened.

yeah, doesn't that company charge $10/mo. for something you can do for free? i thought they did more than just put "fraud alerts" on your report. putz. that's funny as hell; yeah, keep announcing your ss# over the air moron..

you dont agree that having your identity stolen is correctable?

I read it as a vacation was the shorter prison time than life in prison or longer than five years as well.

"Hello, this is Todd Davis"

"No Lisa I DID NOT request that credit..."

Haha Todd.

this guy is completely ******. one minute he's presiding over what looks to be an up and coming company, and now he's got nothing to look forward to except for serving chowder and iced tea.

I am not sure if any of you actually read the link or not. I don't see him going to prison and the only thing he had "stolen" was a sleazy loan agency in some city giving someone $500 without checking credit.

Considering the fact that the entire world knows his SS#, I think that it pretty minimal. Furthermore, LifeLock tells you in the beginning that they do a service that you could do yourself for free and people pay it to save them the time.

Just because people are filing lawsuits do not mean they are going win them. Maybe you will get your wish and he will go to prison, but I would say that is a LOOOOOONNNNGGG shot right now.

I did not think he was going to jail nor that he should. I just think it is funny given the smugness of his commercials.

I don't really see the big deal nor why this even warrants court cases...the business is essentially an insurance program. they do the work for you, and if somehow someone is able to break thru all of that protection and steal your identity, they'll pay for any costs to you. that said, the article does mention people bringing suits that the company is not covering what they say they will, or are misleading...if true, then that's a big problem for them.

the issue with him making his SSN available is actually a central tenet of security...in web security (please correct me if I'm wrong...I'm going off memory here), you should be able to give someone the encryption key to someone and they still can't get into your system. Anything less, and you really can't say it's secure.

fwiw, it's pretty impressive that he's put his SSN out there widely and only one person was able to take advantage of it. if they're doing what they say (i.e. that they will pay for any costs related to identity theft of their users), then I really see no problem, given that ~100 people out of a million have been the victims (and given the coverage, they'll ultimately incur little cost).

the Lifelock page says:

"Third, we request that your name be removed from pre-approved credit card and junk mail lists and we keep making the requests as they expire. Statistics show that this is one of the many ways that thieves hijack identities. Plus, all that mail is just so irritating. Many of our members tell us that this alone is worth the price. If you are a do-it-yourselfer, you can do this for free, but why not let us do it for you?"

anyone know the easy way to do this?
