Hello there, my old friendNot so long ago it was til the end
We played outside in the pouring rain
On our way up the road we started over again

Youre livin a dream....wo you on top
My mind is achin....lord it wont stop
Thats how it happens....livin life by the drop

Up and down that road in our worn out shoes
Talkin bout good things and signin the blues
You went your way....i stayed behind
We both knew it was just a matter of time

Youre livin a dream....wo you on top
My mind is achin....lord it wont stop
Thats how it happens....livin life by the drop

No wasted time....were alive today
Churnin up the past....theres no easier way
Times been between us....a means to an end
God its good to be here walkin together my friend

Youre livin a dream....wo you on top
My mind is achin....lord it wont stop
Thats how it happens....livin life by the drop

Written by D. Bramhall the younger for SRV. Doyle's version of it is pretty good, as well.

Makes me recall the Arc Angels at the shores concert during SXSW. Great music, cold beer, beautiful day.

Probably saw him 50 times here in Austin. Best Guitar player I ever saw and I saw a lot of them. His regular Wednesday gig at Steamboat was probably when most folks started to discover his talent. I spent about 6 years wondering what the tatoo on his chest was...I always thought is was a a bear claw?(wiki answer- It's a baby peacock sitting on a branch with two rose bushes growing out the ends of the branch )

I still remember muttering.. "please let it be Robert Cray... please let it be Robert Cray..." The sad thing for me was Stevie had really gotten his **** together and was about to reach true superstardom IMO. I am still pissed at David Bowie for tooling Stevie over, though I loved Bowie's early work, it left a bad taste in my mouth.

I was hoping to see Stevie weh he got old and grey they way I did so many of the other bluesmen that came to town. Back then when a blues act played in town you knew to head on over to Antone's for a likely guest appearance and Jam session. Glad I was around to see him so many times. R.I.P.
