LHB

Just wondering if any one else misses hearing the LHB drum line just before we kick off? I don't care for the 'piped in' music. I guess changes are inevitable...

I absolutely HATE the use of canned music - this is college football - this is why we have bands. Okay, I was in the Longhorn Band in '69-'70 and am a little prejudiced, perhaps, but there is something to be said for tradition and not sounding like every other place now. I hated it when I flipped over to other games as well - same song, etc. etc.

I remember the first time I ever heard a stadium sound system play over LHB- Cotton Bowl...the Miami game_ and I hated it then and I still hate it now.

The only thing I love about the SEC is how much their bands are a part of the game. I wish LHB were more involved, not less.

I'm an 18 year old kid and I cannot stand the "stadium music". It takes away what I grew up with and what I expect from a place with as many traditions as Texas.

On another note, kudos to the band for the new song/cheer even though it didn't catch on at all. Much like the Go Gators and Go Tigers quick songs FL and LSU have, the band did a similar Go Horns with Deep in the heart of TX music. Anyone else catch it?

they also played a fair amount of outkast. i prefer to stick to the traditional stuff. and yes, i need more drum cadence pre-kickoff and on defense.

no. I've had tix in the NEZ for 12 yrs, thought that they'd be louder facing us from the SEZ, but they don't sound as loud as when they were on the eastside. but they were taking up valuable real e$tate there and had to be moved. sad.....

I'm in the West upper deck on the South End and I HATE all the piped in music. It seems to me like the band gets the short shaft b/c: 1) seems they don't get to play as often as they used to, and 2) when they do they're not as loud as what the piped in music is which diminishes their effect.

I"m used to pro basketball and football games having such entertainment - they have no alternative. But, I do think that college football entertainment can be part band with some video stuff mixed in on the board, but the music should ALWAYS be about the band. Hrrrrmmmmmppppphhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One other impact of all the piped in music is the lack of fan cheers, i.e., TEXAS - FIGHT! I only noticed that happening once in the Wyo game and I couldn't hear it over the PIM. That is such a home field advantage that lets our stadium rock the opponents.

I like the Deep in the Heart chant. Very nice.
We needed something to change with the band, this is a good one.

The band last night was fabulous. At the band hall yesterday morning at around 6...buses left at 7. Long ride to Lubbock and straight to rehearsal at Tech. Into the stadium at 6 where they were immediately harassed by Tech students. They gave it back in triplicate, including cowbells, without the profanity. Jumped the whole night when they weren't playing. Turned to the east side of the stadium, after Eyes, and did one last Texas Fight towards where most of the UT fans were still standing 30 minutes after the game. They are a real asset.

^ Perfect time to play "Texas, Our Texas".

The Vasher interception game in Lincoln, a goup of about 25 or us sang "TOT" sans band. There was a gentleman well into his 80's standing next to me and he was singing the loudest as tears ran down his face. After all "WE'RE TEXAS" damnit.

Watching the game on TV last night the only band I heard was ours. I like Tech's band and traditional songs, but they did not come over my TV set. Did anyone else notice this. Maybe it was the Longhorn versus the TT's band's placement in the stadium that allowed "Texas Fight" to be heard so clearly over the televisor apparat.

I was sitting ABOVE the Tech band and to its left...thankfully, I could not hear a note they played. I could hear the LHB band in the north end zone....and when I watched the replay on TV, I could hear "Texas Fight" loud and clear.
