LHB - The Lost Years

So, it has been a slow day here in Austin. After lurking and posting on the site for the better part of the afternoon, I got caught up in watching the 1990 football highlights on YouTube.

Do you remember when The LHB would play that HORRIBLE song after we'd score? I think it was called Victory or something along those lines. I want to say that Texas Fight was played after, but I can't be sure.

It just got me to appreciating the present day version of ALL things Longhorn. What a horrible funk we were in, I am glad we 'grew out of it' as my mother would say.

How long until the first game?

The number probably WAS "Victory". We played it after field goals back in the late 60s through early 70s. Same words for the fans as Grandioso, if anyone's interested.

Yes. Was called Victory. Horrible song. Sounded like something you'd hear at one of those carnivals that get set up in mall parking lots or in a Shriner parade. On another note, I miss when the band would march in while the visiting team was still warming up on the field. Completely took them out of what they were doing.

I was in LHB when the decision was made to revive "Victory." I think most of us hated it. If I recall correctly, the director at that time was responding to a large number of requests from older folks to bring it back (I think this was in '90). And when we played it, I remember seeing some people on the other side of the field doing arm gestures spelling out VICTORY, a la The Village People. It always was just a few here and there, mostly old folks.

But yeah...that sort of sucked.

Haha. Yeah. Victory was brought back again last year, but it only gets played at the end of home games we win. I imagine it'll happen next year again.
