Let's Talk About Flying

Our company has operations in a few locations around the country and we are looking into buying a plane to help meet the needs the execs that are having to travel. Anyone have any experience in this field?

your better off buying a share of a plane or planes.

The first question asked really is the most important question, what is the distance you'll be flying? My company has shares in 3 planes, 2 of which are the nicest but can't cross the atlantic or pacific and the third is for long haul travel which is less luxurious but can take a lot more people. None of them are assets on our balance sheet (which most companies prefer) but are disclosed as material leases.

Lots of depreciation play here and also on the other end expense plays if you keep off the balance sheet......

lots of reasons why....Accounting, Time, Convenience, EGO.

reason why not.....$$$$

I happen to work in this industry and as most posters have stated it makes a lot of sense in most cases to own a fraction or share or a plane.

Feel free to pm me if you have any more questions or if you'd like more details on the options that are available.

unless your company is willing to establish a flight department you are better off going fractional. let someone else manage it for you.

I deal with private planes on a daily basis and they are money pits.

Those are the big fractional companies I can think of off the top of my head. I think you normally purchase a certain number of hours per year for a particular type or group of aircraft. Then when you need it it shows up and off you go. Pilots, maintenance, insurance, dispatching, fuel, etc... all included.

If you end up buying an airplane, the price of the airplane itself will be the cheapest part of the operation. Everything else adds up unbelievably expensive.

Thanks for the help guys.

I got in contact with the Marquis Jet guys here and we are meeting this afternoon. The power of horfans never ceases to amaze me.

There are some options that vary from the traditional fractional method that make a lot more sense these days.

I don't have anything to add but I'm interested in hearing what you do. Please post updates when you get a chance.
