Let's get irrational

March Madness is fast approaching. This team seems to have a lot of the things you look for going into the tourney:

Momentum: Check
Consistency: Check
Battle Tested: Double Check
Clutch Players with stones: Check (ie JHOLMES)
Ball Security: Check
Rebounding: Check
Strong Guard Play: Check
Dominant Big Man: Check
Lock Down Defender: Check
Healthy and Deep: Check
Most importantly, the "it" factor: Check

The consensus seems to be that next year we are going to make a run if we can add the kid from Dallas. But who says we have to wait until next year?? I'm all in on the idea that we have a chance to make some legitimate noise this year. Why not? What past UT team has checked all of those boxes?

We're only missing three things: great 3 point shooting, overhwhelming athleticism, and a true star. You can make a run in the tourney without those 3 things.

I like what we bring to the table come tourney time better than what Kansas is bringing. They only check about half of the boxes. Their fan base isn't looking ahead to next year. Why should we be??? Maybe this team is more than just a happy rebuilding story.

I watched the KU-Flarida game last Saturday and I don't think that we're near the Gators level and probably won't get there this year. The inconsistent Wildcats played tough for a while but FU almost seemed to be toying with UK at the end.

Syracuse has dodged more bullets than Tony Soprano and looks vulnerable but everyone in the world, except one guy, thinks they are the best. The Law of Averages will catch up with them any day and they won't make the Last Four I don't think.

Many teams like Cincy, St. Louis and San Diego St would be .500 in the Big XIII and someone's going to administer The real Shocker to Wichita State in Round 1 I predict.

At this point, a rational expectation would be for the BarnesStormers to make it to the Eighth-finals (Regional semifinals). There's just too many deeper and more balanced teams in the Top 16 to hope for more.

Check that.

You never know what can happen in tourney play.

I do know this though, if Lammert can start hitting those 3s that he likes to take, we could be dangerous. Very dangerous.
That's if everyone else continues to play at the level they have been.

I'll say this:

This is my most favorite Longhorn basketball team ever.

They play hard, they are unselfish and they play smart. We have front court intimidation and back court agression. The sky is the limit for this team. We beat down KU and that was not a fluke, and more recently demolished a WV team that has playing at a high level in recent weeks. I regard people as thinking this team has to wait until next year for some serious pelts during March Madness as not recognizing what is happening with this team. To define this team by its first 4-6 games is to be seriously blind. It is a special group, they are hungry and fearless and continue to improve. It has the skill set to give Syracuse's zone a serious run for the money.

Let's check back after these two very tough road games this week. I was impressed with the two home wins, especially agaist WVU as well as they have been playing. But, road games are never easy and both of those teams will want payback. Hook em.

^^^^^ I second that.

I don't think we'll get past the first weekend. Not yet. One bad night a la KSU, we'd be done. Wait till next year.

After two road wins this week? Who knows?

I think we all pretty much agree that the ou/ISU/KU trifecta will not yield a win. Over the last 3 weeks Tech has played awfully well, including a sweep of the Oklahoma school. Tubby has won big everywhere he has been and our game there is their Senior Night. This isn't a game I worried about 5 weeks ago, but it has my attention now.

20-5.........

I don't think there's anything wrong with 3-3 (4-4 if you count a W and a L in the conference tournament) from here on out. It still way exceeds my expectations coming into this joint. If someone had told me we'd be 24-9 at tourney time, I would have asked if we picked up some transfer going into the year, or if every team we played had a gimp.

Unfortunately, I also think we'll get the shaft come selection time, so I too believe that we'll probably be out of the whole thing by the end of the first weekend. We could conceivably be a 7-seed and end up playing a #2 in the Saturday/Sunday window.

This is the kind of tough, hungry, young team that could make a lot of noise come Big 12 tourney time. They don't seem to take anything for granted like years past around here. Regardless I'm extremely proud of them and absolutely love watching them play.
