Let's accommodate lawbreakers

This reads like something out of The Twilight Zone. Nobody would've believed this 20 years ago. But, it illustrates the level of insanity we've reached. Anyone here old enough to remember when we had responsible (not perfect) leadership? This police chief should be terminated for dereliction of duty.

Total Liberal Insanity

It's all about recruiting future Democrats. Our laws are secondary to that endeavor. It is truly the twilight zone.

Look, our nations top "law enforcement officer" is Eric Holder.

Just ponder that and let it sink in a bit.

We're so @#$%ed.

Let me get this straight.
The illegal alien is driving a car illegally because he doesn't have a drivers license, then is pulled over presumably for breaking a traffic law and has him car impounded for 30 days.

That is somehow, in the activists opinion, "just creating more punitive problems for them." And of course is UNFAIR.

That is astonishing from the police. If he were being consistent, he would refuse to ever cite anyone, regardless of legal status, for driving without a license. That would obviously be adsurd and dangerous.

Plus, this is the type of left wing feel good nonsense that feeds right wing paranoia, and makes sensible public policy impossible in this country.

We should probably just go ahead and cede California back to Mexico. We've pretty much already lost it anyway and giving it back to Mexico would get rid of the biggest blue state in the country.

The illegal immigrant issue is pretty ******.

If illegals are going to be allowed to stay they have to be accommodated. Politically it is apparently inexpedient to truly employ a comprehensive plan for clamping down on this issue. Monetarily, employers of illegals make money from the situation, so the impetus to skirt the law remains.

This is not a matter of insanity. It is a matter of expedience and fairly straightforward decision making on both side of the political spectrum. No one has the political stones to hammer employers who provide illegals with a reason to be in this country, and no one has the political stones to round 'em up and ship 'em out. Failing to face the situation head on is an accommodation. If you start down that path all accommodations makes some sense. It starts with the politicians, as the employers are generally encouraged to make as much money as they can, legality being left to the sorting of politicians and bureaucrats.

Obviously the City of Los Angeles should be following the law and should face consequences for not doing so. However, they could have done this in a much less controversial manner.

Instead of impounding the vehicles of unlicensed drivers (which everyone knows is largely a proxy for illegal immigrant drivers), they should impound the vehicles of uninsured drivers. You'll get most of the same people and nail the irresponsible "legal" drivers as well.

(We are entirely too lax on uninsured motorists. I think an uninsured driver should have his vehicle impounded, should have to pay a $500 fine ($1,000.00 if he causes a wreck), and should have to prove that he has prepaid his insurance for the next 12 months to get his car back. If he can't do that within 30 days, the car should be auctioned off.)
