Les Miles speaks on the Paulson plan

The final question posed to Miles today was whether he approved of the government's multi-billion dollar bailout of the financial industry.

No, really, it was. I kid you not. I can only hope, and I do surmise, given the laughter I heard in the room, that there's an inside joke here that we out-of-staters are missing.

But, Miles answered. "I turn most of those matters over to my wife, to be honest with you," he said. "I think there's some real concern about our national issues and making sure that our country continues to grow and thrive. I don't think anybody's paycheck absolves them from interest and want for the best of our country. I'm a free market guy, always have been, not irrespective of paycheck. I've always felt like the government should be less involved, and this may be the exception."

Well I guess that explains the surge on Wall Street today. The investors have just been waiting to get Leslie's take on bailout.

They should have asked him how the government's bailout of the financial industry's seemingly insurmountable deficit compared to VY's bailout of Texas' seeming insurmountable deficit in the 2004 UT vs oSu game.

Miles then added, "You know, I can't blame those bankers for loosening lending standards and taking imprudent risks. That's how you win! What's the point of not playing to win? Here at LSU we are experts in loosening standards and taking imprudent risks all the time. Shoot, sometimes we even combine both. Brandon LaFell? Hell, he had what you might call 'subprime' academic credentials and without LSU being willing to forgo 'creditworthy' recruits we would have missed out on his business, which, by the way, paid off handsomely when we threw for the endzone at the end of the game. Some older and more established coaches might call that risky. I say it's the new economy. I'm Les Miles and that's what I do. I turned down Michigan because I hear 'ole Hank Paulson might be on his way out and I'm kind of getting tired of this coaching thing, you know. Next question."

I never liked Miles either, but in this case it didn't sound like a bad answer.

What say we let it go, and quit acting like he matters?

Les Miles is not wired in the same configuration as the rest of us but we should all remember that his Oklahoma State teams beat OU in years where we, with much more talent, did not.

He figured out that the way to beat Stoops' gimmick defense was to throw behind them even if your qb did not have a great arm. It worked. Pete Carroll put on a clinic on OU as a result of having that knowledge.

I have to agree with ClevelandHorn. I have given the same opinion to others several times. I am a free market guy but there is no question some regulation is needed. Good for Les.

I believe it was "acting like HE matters"

The reference to repeated Miles bashing threads.

He should not matter to us................just talking
