Leinart not a bust yet?

a free pass?

Leinart has most definitely not gotten a free pass. That is one article. Obviously, just someone playing devil's advocate.

Vince has gotten a free pass though, until this pre-season. Remember those photos with Leinart, he apparently wasn't working hard cause he wasn't in the film room at midnight and was hanging out with chicks. What about that ridiculously gay photo of Vince chugging tequila in a room with a bunch of half-naked sweaty men? No one said anything.

I love ML, but he can't throw hard and he's a statue back there. It's too early to say officially he's a bust but I'll go ahead and say it anyway cause I know in 3 years, nothing will have changed....he's a bust as an NFL QB. So what, lots of great college players, esp. at QB never amounted to much in the NFL.

Vince Young will be a bust too. I know you guys think he walks on water so I expected to hear lots of **** for this but so far he's been unimpressive in the NFL. Oh I know I know, his WR are the worst in history. They couldn't make a pop warner team. If VY was a great QB shouldn't he make those around him better? Are all 30 INT he's thrown in 1.5 years of heavy playing time because the WR dropped perfect passes? give me a break. He did a few things running the ball his rookie year and he was the beneficiary of being the starting QB in games such as when the Titans D had like 3 defensive touchdowns, winning 24-21, a game in which VY did nothing. For that he was rookie of the year. How about in 2007? 9 TD, 17 picks. All 17 must be because of the WR huh? The list of excuses for VY is never-ending. Hilarious.

If I'm wrong and Vince turns out to be a good NFL QB, I'll come back and admit it. If VY continues to struggle, you guys will still be chalk full of excuses no matter how ludicrous it sounds.

Who cares anyway, all that matters is what they did while in college. My view of ML won't change just cause he couldn't cut it in the NFL. I know yours of VY won't either.

I don't know many folks that would contend that Vince is a perfect QB, or even that he is close.

However, he has taken a team with relatively poor talent and lead them to a better and better record, and even a playoff birth.

Aikman didn't exactly make his teammates better during his 1-15 rookie year. How many first and second year QB's come in a tear it up?

I don't think it is fair to say that poor talent doesn't adversely impact VY's performance.

Yes, he needs to cut down in the INT's. He plays a little frantic sometimes. I think it is possible that he won't make it. BUT, I wouldn't bet a penny against him.

To keep things on topic (sort of), I'll admit that I haven't seen enough of Leinart in the pros to have much of an opinion. However, getting beat out by Warner isn't like getting out by Brady or Manning. It's more like getting beat by Kitna (if Kitna's hands were shrunk down to the size of an infant's).

Hook'em

All this is good..............................but someone on here owes me a twelve pack of Superior. I bet Ol Smoky that VY would not win a playoff game by his third year. Pay up dammit, I can't get Superior in Oklahoma.
Anyway, I'll take Vince over Leinart. I drafted ML last year in the tenth round of my big money fantasy draft and it was a wasted pick. He sucks. Hello Steve Walsh, etc.
He needs to go back to ballet class as that must be where he left his mobility. In a pink skirt being held hostage by his girlfriend.
Arm Strength? I must have been hammered his entire senior season..........................that's certainly possible.

i wouldnt call him a bust, either. he hasnt had much of a chance to prove anything. drew brees was destined for bust land then all of a sudden had a break out year. now everyone loves him.

I think most of us sane-minded fans can admit that VY has been less than perfect so far in the NFL. His decision making has been downright awful at times, and his accuracy has been off.

The "he has no WRs" may just sound like an aggy excuse, but it's absolutely true. Are you telling me that if Tom Brady or Peyton Manning had been back there that they wouldn't struggle? They are Super Bowl MVPs, so they're just so good that they would turn all the junior-high level talent around them into Jerry Rice, right? Give VY Randy Moss, Marvin Harrison, and Reggie Wayne to throw to behind a road-grading O-line, and I bet you might see a little bit of an improvement.

And it's not just the WRs, Lendale White doesn't exactly strike fear into a defense with his 3 yard nose-dives up the gut. Not exactly a homerun threat.

So yes, VY definitely has some improvements to make and needs to keep progressing if he is going to become a good NFL qb of his own merit. But if for some reason he doesn't stick, it most certainly won't be all on him.

One thing is for sure neither Vince or Leinart are not very good fantasy qbs. Vince has a long way to go to be a great NFL qb and not sure with the lack of talent at WR in Tenn if we will ever know how good he could be?

We live in an instant gratification age, people are so busy looking ahead to the next thing that they don't ever give the present time to develop. I find it really odd, and it's the main reason I can no longer watch anything on ESPN, other than the games themselves.

In 2005 we had ESPN and other mediots trying to stack up USC against the greatest teams of all time, before the Rose Bowl was even played. I have no idea why they do things like that, instead of letting a team prove itself and take its place among the greatest of all time AFTER they've earned it. Context and history are extremely important in making these determinations, but here in the Instant Gratification era, we're too impatient to worry about things like History. We want to know RIGHT NOW what our place in history is, which is not only preposterous, but impossible.

Similarly, right here we have people labeling Vince Young a bust after only two seasons. How did guys like Troy Aikman, Joe Montana, and Brett Favre look after two seasons?

Sorry folks, but whether you think VY is going to be a bust, or you think he's going to revolutionize the NFL game, you're going to have to wait a few more years before you get to tell the other side "I told you so."

Saying it now, prematurely, just makes you look like an idiot.

I don't know how you can look back at someone's career when it has just started.

There isn't a soul alive that knows where Vince Young's career is headed. If he never gets one iota better he is still middle of the pack or better in the NFL. Not too shabby by any stretch of the imagination.

If you believe in trends, well Vince Young got better every year in college and he is better now than he was then. The logical conclusion is that he will continue to get better. He certainly hasn't hit the wall with his athletic abilities.

Time will answer all questions, but to say he has stunk it up to this point is more than a bit bizarre.

This thread reminds me why Landry was right to avoid playing a QB until they had sat on the bench for a few years.

Take a guy like Romo. The stars had to align just for him to get on a roster and to be kept around as a 3rd string QB. Now people talk about him as one of the upper echelon of QBs (at least regular season QBs). Romo did not even play in a game until his 4th season (2006).

Instead too many QBs get thrown to the wolves in their first year. VY did okay his first year, but mainly by being Superman.
