Legend, Elite, Good

Saw this thread on the Rebkell Junkie Board website (credit to author okstateguy) and found it interesting. There was no definition of the categories. IMO, legend status should apply to those who are no longer coaching but the others are toss ups. What do you think? Who was left off? Who was ranked too high?

Legend:
Geno, Tara, Pat, Muffet, Staley, Mulkey

Elite:
Sylvia Hatchell, Jody Conradt, Gary Blair, Brenda Frese, Leon Barmore, Jim Foster, Jeff Walz, Van Chancellor

Great:
Lisa Bluder, Andy Landers, C Vivian Stringer, Sherri Coale, Marsha Sharp, Kay Yow, Debbie Ryan, Sue Gunter, Kelly Graves, Joanne McCallie, Gail Goestenkors, Vic Schaefer, Sue Semrau, Kenny Brooks, Rene Portland, Wes Moore, Cori Close, Charli Rurner Thorne,

Good:
Doug Bruno, Bill Fennelly, Jeff Mittie, Rick Insell, Karl Smesko, Kevin Borseth, Aaron Johnston, Lisa Fortier, Lindsay Gottlieb, Suzy Merchant, Harry Perretta, Kellie Harper, Sharon Versyp, Nell Fortner

I'd love to see how others view elite vs great vs good

That person is a WBB junkie over a long time period to know all those names. It think their list is pretty good. You could disagree on some points (eg., Jim Foster great, while Sue Gunter and Marsha Sharp were merely good). Wasn't Rene Portland forced out because of her anti-LGBT behavior? That's not cool. Some would argue for Jody being on the top line, but maybe she's not there because she didn't win as many national championships as those six. Overall great list.

I would think it could be structured to remove emotional/fan bias by looking at tangible accomplishments, but many will probably still see my bias when I say:

Legend = multiple nationals championships or at least one with an undefeated season. :yes:

Elite = one National

Great = multiple final fours

Good = multiple elite 8’s

Some objective measurement. Good idea.

But it really does depend on what is or isn’t being measured. For example, Conradt was accomplished on and off the court and her work to pioneer the women’s game was legendary. She was the first to do many things. Then you have Mulkey who has done incredible things on the court but doesn’t even make the cut as “good” if you are talking about simply being a decent person.
