Lee to Phillies

The Link

I like the fact that (1) he didn't pick the Rangers and (2) he picked an NL team. Perhaps he tired of pitching to teams with a DH? The Rangers will be just fine without Lee in the long run.

SO SORRY TO HEAR THAT on mlb tv....breaks my heart

I can't blame him, it's 110+ on the field in pre game warmups....that's what wears you down as much as the heat during games after the sun sets

NY lost his *** b/c somebody spit on his wife...at least that is comforting, he was as good as theirs, but a classless fan killed that chance

Grinder,

i cannot disagree more....lee's IP's allowed the Pen to survive for the first time in a LONG time....when you have one of your starters that hands the ball to the closer, and bypasses the middlers, that's huge

of course, he completed his starts once in awhile too.

Look it up...Lee avg'd more IP per start than any starter in the AL.....This is a devastating blow to the R's. Greinke, Pavano, no one can take his place unfortunately

When all of the other Rangers' contracts are up next season, we'll remember this as the day we saved 2012 and beyond. Wilson, Lewis, you name 'em...

I'm disappointed, especially since he was willing to take a 5-yr deal, which most thought was unlikely. We'll recover, but our staff takes a hit, obviously. I've read we're unlikely to be in the running for Greinke due to the Royals current personnel needs, which don't fall in line with what we've got in the pipeline. I'm thinking we make a run for Matt Garza. I find the guy to be a douche, but he's a solid, playoff-proven commodity with a lot of good years left. We'll see what happens. The Phils rotation is FILTHY. Anything less than a title should be considered an abject failure when you're dealing Halladay, Lee, Hamels and Oswalt.

I wasn't surprised he didn't choose the Yankees after what some of their fans did to his wife but he must not be familiar with the way Philadelphia fans treat visitors. Or else it is ok with him when it goes the other way.

grinder,

"devastating" is zackly the term for what's going to happen to our Pen now that Lee's gone....Same old song pre 2009, looks ok until late July, then caves.

Gee, why does this happen every year we don't have Cliff Lee???? Why oh why????

(hint...heat and overuse...37 of 38 years this has happpened...Cliff prevented it)

Despite all of the good things that happened in 2010 (WS; change of ownership), Texas finds itself in the same position they have been in for the last 30 years - no #1 or #2 pitcher.

@ViperHorn -- I see your point, but I saw enough of C.J. to think he'll be a solid #2, at worst. He still battles control issues, but that was improved if you look at the season splits (1H vs. 2H). I think the guy will prove to be more than a flash in the pan. I could be wrong, too.

@HHD -- Yea, Garza has been great in each of the 2 playoffs he's been in, if I'm not mistaken.
