I really never have liked Back in the USSR. Not sure why, but its my least favorite song of theirs and an immediate skip or channel change when I hear the plane.

The Long and Winding Road.

"Long And winding Road" was awful.

I also never cared much for "Octopuses Garden". Maybe if someone other than Ringo had sung it, it might have been okay...

Ringo wasn't always bad, BTW, but the song had to "fit" his voice

"Long and Winding Road" is not my favorite but the original version released a few years back on the Naked Let it Be was much better thab the one issued on the album which had been doctored up with 'singing Ladies" by Phil Spector.

The Beatles had a lot of "throwaway" songs - John even admitted it, using that exact word. Fortunately, they balanced it out with those other songs that just so happen to be among the best rock songs ever written.

You almost have to put a caveat by any of these song picks - my own, for example, I've never eally cared for Twist n' Shout. However it features one of the most incredible vocal performances of all time - just by listening to Lennon's mind-stunning vocal, I can enjoy the song. Same with Octopus Garden - Harrison's guitar work is amazing even if it's a cheesy tune w/weak vocals(Ringo).

Seems to be a lot of hate for early Beatles - here again like most I'm a bigger fan of their later work(Revolver, Abbey Road, White album)... but when viewed in context their early work was revolutionary and genius. In the early 60s you had mostly a bunch of formulaic 50's style crap going on... the only thing edgy and cool was the Chuck Berry/Little Richard-style R&B-influenced rock n' roll, but even this was getting old because these guys were using the same old 1-4-5 blues progressions virtually every song. The Beatles took the energy of this style along w/it's agressive guitar riffing, laid it over more advanced chord progressions, and to boot threw down vocal melodies and harmonies that have never been matched. Voila - you may not like I Wanna Hold Your Hand, Yeah Yeah Yeah, I Saw Her Standing There etc. but it was these songs that swung the door wide open for what we now consider rock/pop music and laid the groundwork for the other great bands of the 60s, 70s and even 80s.
Bottom line even my "least favorites" are still pretty damn good.

I'm gonna go with Long and Winding Road as well.

I disagree with the "anything Ringo sang" crowd as i loved Don't Pass Me By, With A Little Help..., and Octopus's Garden.

Also, I'm really shocked that Strawberry Fields made its way on to this thread.

uncle rico wins, hands down. i would add daydream believer.

Most of those songs mentioned are great, and will be around long after pretty much everything from the current era of music is long gone.
What's with the monkeys song? Is that a joke?
