Learning about delayed gratification ...

Dadgum. It's going to be tough getting to potato planting time without 15 hot shot high school prospects pledging themselves to the burnt orange. Is Mack trying to teach discipline to the fan base too?

That's awful aggy of you.

Putting more thought into them because of a lack of scholarships to give would impact the amount of scholarships offered, not whether the kids accept them.

There have been plenty of offers, they're just not jumping on them like they used to.

I think what we're seeing is a direct result of Mack encouraging the recruits to go home, take a few days and talk it over with the family. This is a 180 from where we've been in the past where we've had recruits confirming they've committed while driving home. If not for the change i imagine we would have already picked up 5 or so by now. I know that there are a few that are getting ready to pull the trigger.

Below are random thoughts on where we stand based on what i've read lately from some of the pay sites:

I know it came out yesterday that Jake Oliver has cancelled his Feb 18th Jr Day visit to Okie State. In addition, he's personally called LSU, Bama, ND, Arky and Ohio State to let them know he had narrowed his choices down to Texas, Okie and Aggy. Personally contacting the coaches speaks volumes for the young man's character imho. This is a reallllly good sign for Texas.

It's been reported on a pay site or two that RSJ's family is really behind him and encouraging him to pull the trigger. RSJ WANTS to play WR and that's exactly what he's being recruited to play. I think he pulls the trigger in the next day couple days.

The others that i think are realllllly close to pulling the trigger are Kyle Hicks, Ra'Shaad Samples and Tyrone Swoopes. I think Swoopes may be the last of the group to pull the trigger but ultimately does.

Hope it helps ease the pain of the waiting game.

WestGAHorn, what's the logical reason for Mack to do that?

I can understand if Sumlin did it at aggy because of their history of decommits but why on earth would Mack tell a kid not to commit today and to wait a few days to do it?

To avoid commiters remorse. He wants the initial excitement and euphoria of an offer to wear off before a kid announces.

I am in need of some gratification. I have waited long enough. I think it is about time for #2 to commit and hopefully start a landslide of commitments.

Loma -- Aggy? Man, you sure know how to hurt a guy. I hope the thread starter betrayed no real distress. As a man with an iNtuitive personality, watching the Horns line up prospects is kinda fun. (what other reason to be on this board?) I trust Mack and don't really mind the delay, it's just not what I'm used to.

No need to make excuses, It was a small junior day and the players who got offers weren't ready to commit. Mack isn't worried about decommits, it has never been an issue at Texas.

Some of the kids might want to wait and see how the season goes, especially since we haven't been ranked in the final poll for 2 years now.

Mack will still get the majority of players he offers this year, (just like he does every year) but he will have to work a little harder to get them.

I think it is a combination of several factors. We saw that waiting on some top recruits can pay off, even on signing day. We also had some success with out of state recruits, and with a couple of junior college recruits.
Maybe we don't want to fill the boat on the first weekend without testing the waters a little more than in the past. We have new coaches with relationships in other states, and we may want to take advantage of this, like in the past recruiting class.
The recruits we offered were big-time. One is between Stanford and Texas.
I think we get most of the ten who visited last weekend, when all is said and done. We are aiming high, not for numbers.

Let the floodgates open. I'm ready for the other nine who received offers to go ahead and make the call to Mack. I think Swoopes would certainly help, so I am calling him out to be #3.

OK, I'm ready to plant freeze-hardy vegetables in the garden today and still only six committments. I'm not miserable. I'll be OK. I trust Mack. ... really ... I'm OK.
