League play

Just like to hear from the BB minds how they see this team stacking up in league play. Any chance of taking down KU?

Even with hitting 60% vs. UConn, FT shooting is still such a visible achilles for the team, that I think it proves to be the reason they drop more conference games than expected. Beating a team like Kansas will take a great game on all facets, especially regarding the stripe and not leaving 9 points off of the scoreboard.

you're right. FT's didn't cost the game. But, they could with this team's %. That was the point I was getting at. Beating an all-around quality team like Kansas requires getting the most out of a lineup, including hitting a high number of FT.

That said, I hope Barnes sets the tempo for conference play tonight against Tceh...

No worry, Jim. I agree that the UConn game is still twisting around in my mind. Those 3 consecutive turnovers down the stretch, combined with watching Corey go up for the final shot while the ball didn't follow still doesn't sit well with me.

Fine start to conference play so far--Texas leads Tech, 38-22, at the half.

Solid contributions from Balbay (five points, five boards and three assists), Joseph (eight points, two boards and two assists) and Thompson (six points, four boards and three assists). Hamilton leads the 'Horns with nine points, but he's also had three turnovers, all of which were in the "stupid" category.

Texas outboarded the Raiders 21-12. On a predictably sour note, the 'Horns have already missed five free throws (eight of 13 from the stripe).

Texas starts league play with an 83-52 drubbing of Texas Tech. The Red Raiders (8-9 overall) aren't very good this year, but it's still not often that you see a team go in to Lubbock and have the win all but locked up with 15 minutes to play.

Regarding the OP, I think this team will be in the running for the league championship. Tonight is a good example why; Texas was careless (13 turnovers, four each from Lucas and Hamilton) and didn't shoot well from the perimeter (three of 12) or from the foul line (22 of 35) yet still won by 31 points on another team's home court.

It's unfortunate our matchup with Kansas is in Lawrence. The Jayhawks are probably too talented and too deep for us to handle at Allen Fieldhouse, but I'm convinced we could take 'em at The Drum.

Mizzou's pressure defense also has me worried. I'm not sure we match up well with the Tigers, but at least that game is in Austin.

I see us finishing 13-3 in conference. I think that may be 2nd to KU as I think we'll lose at KU and they play most of their tough Big 12 games at home. That gets us to 25-6 overall before the Big 12 tourney (at KC unfortunately). If we win out at KC (always tough for RB UT teams at Big 12 Tourney), I think we could get a #2 seed. I think if not, we're a #3 seed at 25-6 and 2nd in Big 12. BTW, the 3 losses in Big 12 that I have are : @KU, @OSU and @A&M.
