Leaf Catcher

I have a small Koi pond and I learned my lesson last year after I spent about 30 hours total pulling leaves out of the bottom of the pond.

I have a freaking oak tree that decided it didnt need to drop all its leaves at one time- instead it took the entire winter to drop all its leaves.

So this year I am planning on putting a cover over the pond (its about 5-6' wide).

My thought is I should just go and get about 20 Square feet of chicken wire and just put that over the pond itself.

Has anyone else done this?

To me it makes sense- but then again, I could be wrong- any thoughts?

At most pool supply stores they sell mesh covers as well as blow-up floats to keep the mesh from sinking down into the water when covered with leaves. Kinda like a mountain that the leaves slide down. I'm getting ready to do that to my swimming pool if I can't convince the wife to let me fill it with dirt or concrete.
