LCD Television/Computer Monitor?

Hello, long-time lurker here. Maybe someone can help me.

I am thinking of getting a new LCD monitor for my computer. I noticed that some now come with a TV tuner. Digital cable and HDTV are not available in my backwoods town. Does anyone know if standard cable looks decent on an LCD TV/monitor? Are there any downsides to getting a TV with the monitor? My current 17-inch LCD monitor is very nice and meet my needs, but I'd like a TV in my office without having to take up any new space.
Thanks for any help you can give me.

You could add a tuner card to your PC and save the cost of the new TV/monitor, right? THe difference would be that the tuner is inside the PC rather than inside the fancy TV/monitor that you have your eye on, right? I've seen TV tuner cards for as little as 40 dollars.

yeah, but i a) don't know how to do that and b) thought i might want to get a bigger monitor (like 20 inches or something). have you seen the quality of LCD televisions?

thanks for your help!

TV cards are cheap and easy to install. I have this one and it's great. I only use it to record shows from my Tivo and other stuff, but it has DVR capabilities too. The quality is excellent.

I have the LCD TV/Monitor setups....a 17" and a 23"; however, I've not connected the TV to the monitor as of yet. Maybe I'll try to set that up and give you some feedback.

I may have to try one of those TV tuner cards also as I have an extra 21" CRT monitor that I absolutely won't get rid of for a while

I have a Dell LCD TV/Monitor. THe 17 incher. It's nice. The resolution in computer mode only goes up to 1280x768 though. I like it a little higher. The nice part is that I have my DirecTV / TiVo unit pumping in news, etc. while I'm working and I can toggle back and forth nicely. It's not in HD but it stillshows up clear and crisp.

There are positives and negatives. The only issue I have with it is the resolution.

agamemnon, do you do a split screen where you can work on the computer and have tv at the same time? also, is the the picture decent enough for watching sports?

thanks!
