LCD/Laptop problem

So my screen is black. I can barely make things out if I look close, but it is real dark. I have tried putting in a self booting disk and going into cmos, but it is the same. So it must be hardware.

Has anyone had this problem and should I get it fixed. It's only about 2-3 years old and I've added memory and it works great. Any est. on how much it might cost to fix and if I should send it to compaq or someplace else? It works fine on an ext. monitor.

Thanks

If you move the screen, does it (or did it at some point) flicker? If so, it's probably the connection to the motherboard. It is pretty easy to fix. If you have a Dell, I can tell you how, because my Inspiron had the same problem.

Agree with the other poster who said it was the LCD bulb. Since you can still see the contents of the screen though faintly, it sounds like the screen's backlight has died. I have no idea how much that would cost to replace and/or fix. Just call the manufacturer's as it sounds like you're out of the warranty period. They should be able to tell you how much it'll cost.
