4-star ..... OLB ..... 6-2/210

Texas is going all in for Jeffrey McCulloch at outside linebacker, but the Longhorns recently got in contact with another highly touted player at the position. St. John’s College (DC) product Aaron Hansford actually reached out to Texas linebackers coach Brian Jean-Mary last week after speaking to some of his teammates at the Under Armour All-America Game about his interest in the Longhorns.

“I hadn’t been in contact with Texas or anything like that.” Hansford said. “But I talked to some of the guys on my team because I was interested, and I followed Coach BJ on Twitter. That’s kind of how it all got started.”

Just hours after exchanging messages, Hansford had a lengthy and productive conversation with Jean-Mary.

“I called him, and we talked for a minute,” Hansford said. “He talked to me about his background and more family-oriented things. I told him my dad went to Texas Southern, so I have that tie. He understands that it’s late in the process, but he wants to make a push.”

Texas has not offered Hansford, who is rated as a four-star prospect. But the Longhorns are in the mix to receive an official visit from him on January 23. Hansford isn’t exactly sure where he stands with Texas at this time, but he does believe an offer could come his way.

“(Jean-Mary) said they want to get my interest up and see where things stand,” Hansford said. “I’m not sure if they are going to offer or not. But he said they like me as an outside linebacker. He said he likes that I’m a pass rusher and can cover.”

Along with Texas, Hansford is strongly considering UCLA, Oregon, Maryland, Penn State, Michigan State, Oklahoma and North Carolina.

At 6-foot-2, 210 pounds, Hansford is ranked as the No. 16 outside linebacker in the country and No. 4 overall prospect in Washington D.C., according to 247Sports Composite.
