Latest Spyware Removal Recommendations

We get a lot of posts on here regarding spyware, and more importantly, how to remove it. One of the techie newsletters that I get has some good info on this topic. There's also some stuff about upgrading Firefox if you are interested.

To summarize, CounterSpy is currently the top rated program, as determind by PC World. Also, a combination of CounterSpy and HijackThis will supposedly remove 100% of all current threats.

seems like there's a better program every month. i'll stick to spybot + microsoft antispyware for a while.

I agree with TOY. With the addition of MS/Giant Beta, there's no reason for me to pay $ for something.

I did go to the CounterSpy website and used their online scanner. It found a few registry items classified as 'low-risk'. I've seen these "Free Scans" before, and they're usually just marketing hype designed to scare you into getting their software. It wouldn't remove the items, of course. I just used another tool to delete them from the registry.
