LASIK

Whats the difference between Intralasik and Custom Intralasik. I read on my doctors site that it said with custom they take a finger print of your eye. You get about 2-3% better chance of 20/20 or better vision. If you dont get custom do they just guess where to cut. I dont really want to play roulette with my eyes. It kind of seems pointless to pay an extra 1000$ for the "custom" intralasik. Im going for my visit next firday so i guess i;'ll find out more. I would think that all lasik is custom.
maybe he puts on his reading glasses for the custom one and goes without for the regular one. must be Mike Tysons versace glasses or something.

When I talked to my doc he told me that all lasik is custom lasik now, smartass.

Has anyone used the Berkley Eye Center in Houston? I know they advertise like a mofo on the radio but has anyone heard good things about them? Are they cheaper than other places because it's the specialty?

Jan. 17th im gettin my eye balls laserd. I cant wait. I have been ordered to go the two weeks prior without wearing my contacts since i do such a bad job of changing them out and taking them out. I wear mine usually for two months without ever taking them out. I know not good but also the reason im doing lasik.
I was told that two hours after the surgery that i would be able to see better and that within 6 weeks the nght halo stuff would subside. Surgery on Thursday morning and back to work on Friday. Not bad. I'll report back whien its done.

LASIK

2. Who did it (and where)?

Dr. Mann from the Eye Clinic. Highly recommended.

6 months

4. What is your current vision?
20/15

5. On a scale of 1-10, how satisfied are you with the results?

I absolutely love it. Thank god I got it done. Worth every penny.

So I am on day 5 following my LASIK procedure. I had the custom wavefront LASIK with intralace. The surgery was performed using the Bausch and Lomb Zyoptix machine. This is supposedly the best technology to give you the greatest chance of not having night vision problems.

The procedure itself is unbelievably fast. It was only a few minutes with each eye. Following the surgery, I was a little more uncomfortable than it seemed like most people describe. Nothing major though. Lots of sensitivity to light. Within a few hours everything was much better.

My night vision is so-so at this point. Lots of star bursts with the lights. Doc said this should improve over the next several weeks. Eyes are a little bit dry too.

Total cost was $4078. (This was with a 15% discount since I went to Lasik Plus - they are connected to my eye insurance provider.)

Overall, I am really glad I went through with it. Good luck to everyone that has this on their to-do list for 2008 and don't hesitate to PM if you have any questions or need a recommendation.

1. What was your eyesight problem, and what procedure did you have done? Custom Wavefront LASIK with Intralace
2. Who did it (and where)? Dr. Mattiola at Lasik Plus in Houston (River Oaks location)
3. How long has it been since you had it done? 5 days
4. What is your current vision? 20/15
5. On a scale of 1-10, how satisfied are you with the results? 9

Funny this popped up again - was just looking into doctors today - emailed a bunch in the Dallas area. So far the only ones I've heard back are

Dr. Booth - priced at ~$1700/eye for Custom Wavefront

LasikPlus (Dr. Smith) - didn't give a price, asked me to come in for consultation (said range was $799 - $2099 per eye)

Also looking at Dr Mazaheri, Key Whitman, Carter Eye Center, and UT Southwestern Laser Center - but haven't heard back.

Anyone have experience with any of the above? Dr. Booth is always on the radio here, and claims to have done the most procedures in the world, so I'm worried I'd be on a factory line there.

I have heard that Booth works on several patients at the same time. Call opthamologists and ask them. We did, and I can't remember the doctor who did mine, but he came highly recommended by the pros. I am completely satisfied and it is going on 4 years.

Scheduled for this afternoon in Austin. I'm waffling a bit though...concerned about halos at night. BUT... have had to wear glasses instead of contacts the last two weeks, and I'm sick of them. Eyes not that horrible, -3.5 and -3.25...but sick of contacts.

any personal experiences with Allegretto Wave Custom LASIK or Dr. Vargas here in Austin? I'm also scheduled for 1/17 and wanted to gather more info if possible.

Boothe is an assembly line/cattle call. Several patients being worked on at the same time. What should take a little over half an hour winds up taking closer to four hours. Thats right, four hours. I went to Kleiman-Evangelista and my dad went to Tylock. Both were good. I have shopped all the Dallas doctors and even worked for one for a while, so I'm familiar with the pricing if anyone has any questions.

Wow!! Its like seeing in HD. I used Austin Eye Clinic on thursday and would spend twice the amount now knowing how it is. I have better then 20/20 vision and the halo's and starburst are not bad at all. Probably not any worse then when i had glasses and contacts. I had the conventional Intralase ($4005) and my perscription was -3.00 and -2.75. It is probably the best thing i have ever spent money on. let me know if yall have any questions. '

got it done last thursday as well. my only piece of advice: DO NOT BUMP YOUR F'ING EYE. i did when i was removing my protective goggles that night to put more drops in and caused a small wrinkle in the flap on my left eye.

it couldn't be smoothed out the next morning during my post-op so i am still dealing with it (it probably set that eye back about a week instead of a couple days in recovery), but i was still already seeing 20/15 by the next morning.

just be careful.

If you've had reconstructive eye surgery (Lasik or similar), please answer the following:

1. What was your eyesight problem, and what procedure did you have done?

contacts were -4.5 and -4.75, astigmatism also; intralasik

2. Who did it (and where)?

After lots of research, used Kleinman Evangelista in Arlington. They used blade method for creating flap (actually better than laser, although "older" technology - according to research, flap heals quicker, less complications, smoother surface, less scar tissue)

3. How long has it been since you had it done?

2-3 years

4. What is your current vision?

20/20 - night vision is a little tiny bit "flat" but WELL worth it!

5. On a scale of 1-10, how satisfied are you with the results?

100!

I think I want to get Lasik, but am concerned with the long-term results and possible negative effects/risks. Any insight would be appreciated!
