Las Manitas Shuts Down

I made it a habit to eat breakfast there on football weekends when I come to Austin. They had the best chorizo I have eaten anywhere and the beans were very tasty compared to the brown starch you get in most tex mex places these days.

And they served fresh squeezed orange juice.

Sorry to see them go. Glad I dropped in Sunday morning.

So now they have a pocket full of taxpayer ahem "loan money" and they have decided to go ahead and pack it in after the **** storm they have caused? Is that right?

Used to like the place, though it was never superior to el sol y la luna and others.

But man, when did they get so righteous. Yea, cost of business is going up, it's going up for everyone. Sell one of your other downtown properties to subsidize this in the mean time. The best thing it had going for it was it was quirky and was in a great location.

Good riddance. They were a surly bunch anyway. Yeah yeah, Tarantino likes that place. Whoopty doo.

Statesman says they may just be moving to another location.

Then again, I never ate there. With eleventy gazillion Tex-Mex restaurants already in Austin, it's hard to make it to all of them. What made that one so special?

Personally, I thought their fajitas were crap. Their migas were okay but not as good as Curras.

If I'm downtown for lunch and want Mexican, I eat at Manuel's.

i agree......good riddance. That whole loan deal pissed me off.

But i will tell everyone here one thing....they have a breakfast taco that i nicknamed the dirty that was stupid good. Egg, bacon, bean, and potato. WIth their hot sauce, it cured many hungover days. Other than that, laters.

Why weren't they bitching about the Frisco? Seems like it's been around Austin a whole lot ******* longer than their self-righteous asses.

Same here, good riddance. The whole drama about them being "victims" and that city loan business pissed me off. But really... the food was okay and the service was terrible. I won't miss them for one second.

Ash Corea (the late, great and lamented Empanada Parlour) literally got harassed out of business by the city. The Perez sisters just overplayed their hand. It happens.

Now, I really miss Mad Dog and Beans and Pato's Tacos.
