Larry McMurtry's 'Berrybender Narratives'

Has anyone read these and willing to offer a thumbs up or down, and how it compared with the Lonesome Dove series?

I saw in the bookstore they offer at now as full set; might buy it for the Nook.

Texas Monthly has a fairly long article on the series this month. I read everything by McMurtry and I thought this series was a little too cute sometimes, but I still finished them all. It's not nearly as good as the Lonesome Dove books, but it has its moments.
