When booting my IBM T21 (XP Professional OS) I get a blue screen that reads:

STOP: c0000218 {Registry File Failure}
The registry can not load the hive (file):
systemrootsystem32configsoftware
or its log or alternate.
It is corrupt, absent, or not writable.

Beginning dump of physical memroy
physical memory dump complete.

Any ideas what the heck this is...? The machine has been running excrutiatingly slow of late. I've been considering adding more memory. Has this thing bought the farm...?

gecko - it sounds like the Blazefind hack. I think I'm spelling it right, I heard about this similar thing last night from my daughter. This thing completely ruins your registry - you get from surfing and hitting a website with a pop-under.

If you still have your windows xp installation disk. Select repair from one of the menus my computer did this awhile ago and everything came back and worked fine as usual. It just replaced some files that went bad I guess. Not sure if it will work for you but worth a try. Windows sucks.
