Laptop DVD player help

Maybe some of you tech savvy guys here can help my step mom.

When she tries to play a DVD on her laptop, she gets an error that says: Interactual 2.0 error. Playback failed due to a problem with the video subsystem. Lowering your screen resolution or color depth may fix the problem . Lowering the resolution doesn't help, as you might expect. On the DVD decoder, it says that there is no dvd device found. Any suggestions?

if its a Dell laptop, you might have some software installed called Sonic DLA. Disable, uninstal, or re-install it. helped mine.
