Landon Donovan to the English Premier League? !

It turns out that Manchester City is very interested and sent a scout to the World Cup to watch him play. That is a position he could break into as it is not overcrowded like F is. There are a couple of older players and he would compliment Shaun Wright-Phillips and the gritty G. Barry. That would be a solid and creative midfield with the threat to score coming at every angle.

Well, and City being my team makes it sweet if it happens.

well, he played for everton this past spring. he played ok. as a supporter of the team, i was hoping he would go back. he tried to get an extended stay away from the galaxy but they recalled him. i was hoping he would return to everton but man city may be throwing some big bucks his way. 4 million i heard. he currently earns 1.5 or so for galaxy.

It would be better for the development of the sport in the US if he stays in MLS, but better for his own development (and bank balance) if he goes to the Premiership.
He was loved by the fans during his short stay at Everton, and I'd like to see him give a go for a full season.

i dont know how his legs will hold up after a season with galaxy, then his spring stint at everton, then he started mls, break for world cup, then back to mls, then play premier again in fall? ill be shocked if he can move

This is huge. Landon is playing the best football of his life right now. He's really found his game; I think this is a great move for The Blues.

I'd prefer he end up back at everton. He made such a seamless transition there in the spring, played very well and was instantly beloved by the fans. It just seems like the best fit, plus he'd have another yank on the side w/ Howard. That said, I'll be in Baltimore for the Inter/Man City game in late July and wouldn't mind seeing Donovan on the pitch...

I'll be curious to see if Michael Bradley moves from Borussia Monchengladbach (sp?) and if so, where to. He had an outstanding tournament and was arguably our best player throughout the four game stretch. Imo, M. Bradley's [possible] new destination and development is much more crucial to the future of U.S. soccer than Donovan's...

Man City's primary target is Mesut Ozil. That said, Arsenal, Barcelona and Chelsea (along with everyone else) are also after Ozil. I don't blame any of them... Ozil, IMO is the prize this summer. He is 21 and already a dominating presence in the midfield. I would think that he would go to Barcelona but Barcelona is loaded at the MF position. Ozil is Muslim and there are whispers that Man City is playing the "we are a Muslim owned club" card to get Ozil. It isn't working and he appears to favor Arsenal in the EPL but he has been pretty quiet about his plans. If Man City lands Ozil, I don't see Landon in Man City's starting eleven. And I don't see Landon going to a club where he wouldn't start.

Boo to overmaars for editing his pun out! I saw what you did there, then, before. *golf clap*

This is big news for City and it gets better if they end up with YaYa Toure from Ivory Coast. The deal is said to be inked and ready to be announced. What is different about this is they are getting guys that WANT to be there and will likely be less of a team chemistry risk. We'll see.

This is still so bizarre and I still feel sort of dirty about it all.
