Lance needs to do what he think is best. We are proud of him no matter what. But if the French fans had wanted him I think they would have got him long before this race. Thanks for the great Tour wins Lance no matter what you decide.

Yea.. he won the thing 7 times. I would think any fan that tragically hurts a leading rider would get the snot beat out of them by the other, better, fans.

Has any rider ever been attacked during the Tour de France? Lance was never attacked during his seven wins, why should he suddenly fear it now? Athletes are occasionally attacked in other competitions, the Athens marathon comes to mind where that nutty Irish "priest" attacked the lead runner. Stop the mindless French-bashing.

Dude, he survived an individual time trial UP Alpe D'Huez in '04. He can survive anything.

I realize it wasn't pretty and he did get crap from a lot of the "fans", but he survived.

Saying that, if he thinks his life or safety is in danger than who am I to question him.
