Lamarr takes responsibility.

people make mistakes. i got a dwi spring of my freshman year. it bothered me for at least 2 years before i realized it was the greatest thing to happen to me. if it didn't happen then, it was going to happen later and it might have been worse. no one was hurt, i didn't get in a wreck. things can always be worse. be thankful no one was hurt and this was a lesson well learned. it's easy to sit in a high chair and say "dude, the guys last year did the same thing, wtf are you doing". i was the first of my friends to get a dwi. i told them all the details. how it sucked and how much time and money it cost me. without fail, for the next 4 yrs or so, my phone would ring on a sunday afternoon. someone else had gotten one and was looking for guidance. unless it's happening to you, it's not real.

I will be the first to jump on someones *** for driving drunk I lost a cousin to a drunk driver. I have an uncle in jail for drunk driving several times, and i don't shed a single tear for him.

This is a situation where it was his first time, it was a mistake and he is doing the right thing. No one was hurt so i won't play the "what if" game. For now I trust him to do the right thing learn from this and move on.

I will say that he should be on a very very short leash and if he decides not to learn form this then I'm all for the most harsh punishment possible.

I've had a cousin and a friend killed by drunk drivers and yet I still am able to see a mistake as a mistake. I'm glad none of you saints ever did anything against the rules. It must be awesome being perfect.

Holier than thou people piss me off....but for the grace of God and all that stuff.

The best thing Houston can do is take out his frustration on the Arky oline. That should shut up most of the Barney Fifes of our fan base.

I can accept that it was a mistake, and he seems like a good kid, but Mack is letting him off too easy on this one. If a DUI arrest was worthy of a 3 game suspension last year (when we had a rash of trouble and were trying to give the impression that we were cracking down on bad behavior) then it is worthy of a 3 game suspension now. I can guarantee that if he had hurt or killed someone, the punishment would be a lot different. The fact that no one was hurt does not change the errors in judgment that he made. Good for him for saying the right things, but personally I think Mack shoulda made the punishment significantly harsher. If you dont want this crap to happen on a yearly basis....make the punishment something that really matters to the kid. One game is a joke.

I don't think anybody can make excuses for Lamarr's actions. If I were King of the World, anyone convicted of DWI would lose their driving privilege for at least one year. In general, our society is too lenient on drunk drivers.

However, have all the facts regarding this situation been made public? Is this situation materially different than Kindle's arrest last year? I would like to understand why the consequences meted out this time would be inconsistent with past incidents. Perhaps there is a good reason, but I would like to know.

Admittedly I havent read all there is to read on the subject, but the article linked above tells me he was arrested for drunken driving after being in an auto accident. I don't need to know much else besides this to think a 1 game suspension is too lenient.

Its quite simple....had he put someone in the hospital (or worse) in his accident, than he's probably suspended for the year. The fact that he got lucky and no one was injured doesnt make his decisions that night any better. I don't care how great a kid he is, if I was running the team he gets 3 games minimum. Mack chose a different approach, and thats his call. I'm just stating my opinion that this punishment was Fulmer-esque.

Some of these posts that are still dogging on Lamar Houston are EXTRA stupid. Kid makes a mistake and handles the aftermath in a very mature way and you Madd mothers are still all over him. I am proud of the way he has handled it. Go jump on him on the original thread, when it originally happened. Get off this thread. This is the thread that appreciates him for his growth and maturity.

Hope none of you hurt your arms throwing those stones. I'm pretty responsible and upstanding these days, but I was kind of a **** up when I was a kid. I learned from a lot of mistakes.
