Lamar Odom traded to Dallas

According to kobe he was "GIVEN" to Dallas.

Vince Carter too. - Gettin older, but can still be a force for short bursts at a time.

Before you start making room for the next banner, go watch how Odom played against the Mavs last year. Yeah... that's what you're stuck with now.

OK

Now you watch how ALL of the Lakers played against The Mavs last year. That's right. Couldn't even win one game & now that's what you're stuck with.

Lamar will fit in very nicely thank you.

Though he missed last year's run, Caron Butler was a very nice player. And Chandler was a force. And JJ was instrumental in the playoff run. Odom is a nice player, but he and the cancer that is Vinsanity do not come close to offsetting the loss of the above players. Our guard play and center play took a huge downward plunge.

Caryhorn - The Mavs also got the lakers 2nd round pick, so the actual trade was Mavs 1st rounder + the trade exception they got from NY on Chandler - for Odom & the lakers 2nd rounder.
Of course both the Mavs & Lakers draft picks will be at the bottom of the rounds. No lottery picks or anything like that.

Rex - cheer up. Butler was gone at mid season last year so nothing was lost except what coulda been. Didn't affect the playoff roster that won it whatsoever. Yeah, of course you would take Chandler & JJ back over Odom & Carter & west (who they signed to take JJ's spot yesterday), but those guys left either way, so since they were already gone, pretty good job to fill those slots with the guys they got. As previously stated, the draft picks aren't going to be anything great. Considering those guys were already gone, they at least landed on their feet.

This new roster will take time to jell. If it ever does. But, it will be interesting to see how a healthy Roddy B and a new Rudy Fernandez fill (or not) the gap left by the little guard leaving. Odom will be a force in the middle if, and I know its a big if, he will get his head right.

I think it will be late spring, after the trade deadline, before we know if the Mavs will make a deep run in the playoffs. If this team looks good, and close to contending for another title, I think Cuban could pull the trigger on something big to get over the hump.

Cuban is a little nuts, but he wants to win more than anything else.

True - but it was apparent that they were heading toward sacrificing this year completely in order to make some BIG moves next year. According to everything I've read, Cuban hasn't messed that up at all while at least upgrading this year from complete disaster to we may be competitive. At least we prob will keep the games entertaining, & things may turn out better than expected. After all - I don't think too many people were picking us last year, & at one point it looked like we wouldn't even get past portland. Both Cuban & Dirk have said that Carter will be like an upgraded Stackhouse when he was first acquired. If that's true, we might not miss Butler at all.

"Lamar will fit in very nicely thank you."

Sure, in regular season games against Sacramento or Milwaukee.

Lamar Odom does not play like a big man. He plays like a PG. Sometimes that's good, other times not so much. He's great at stepping out to get defenders out of their comfort zones. He's also a good passer, which is rare for someone his size. He's just not a traditional "big man."

This is coming from the experience of having watched him play for another LA team and Rhode Island. You can't trust him to do the little things on either end in crunch time. If you think he's getting any of Chandler's minutes, you're sorely mistaken.

Another trade note. Rudy Fernandez has been traded (don't remember where, somewhere on the east coast, I think) for a late round draft pick.

The pundits up in the metroplex are saying the Mavs are clearing the decks to have cap room next year.

No doubt Cary. Sent to Denver along with C Brewer for only a second round pick.
Cuban is moving in on Dwight Howard who said the only teams he would sign with long term are lakers, nets, or MAVS. Nets = no chance (too cold, which is why he's not considering bulls, etc)
That leaves Donnie & Cuban vs Mitch. Cuban never loses a bidding war because he is the avg fan like you or me if we won the power ball & owned the team. He would rather have 5 billion in the bank & win than 10 billion & not.
Also, he would not give away Rudy & brewer for nothing if he wasn't pretty sure he could pull this off. Local boy D Will is also on his radar (man- I remember watching him in HS with Bracey Wright & Daniel Horton Who went to Michigan. That was truly a great HS team, but I really thought Bracey would turn out to be the superstar)

Don't worry 11. Not counting on L O to fill in for TC. Brendan & Ian can hold that down until Dwight gets here.

Texdoc,

If D Howard comes to Dallas I will be flying high. Cuban and Donnie Nelson will erase all doubts about their basketball acumen.

Heres hoping they do indeed pull it off!!

The Celtics used to grab older guys and get them to play well together. Maybe Kidd can get all these old fukers to play. Carlisle will be good to get them as well.

Considering that the Mavs lost Chandler, I thought getting Odom was a pretty good pickup. If Roddy can stay healthy, then I would expect him to be a good replacement for JJ.

If they are trying to win in 2013, then they are definitely planning on adding a PG that is currently not on the team. Kidd played younger than his age to pull off the win last year mixing both experience and determination. I think the odds of him being able to repeat that in 2013 are extremely slim.

The Link

Anyone else want to defend the merits of Lamar? Cuban should have watched his playoff series against the Mavs last year before taking such a calculated gamble.
