Lake Travis vs. Evangel Christian

Interesting story in today's "Lake Travis View" - Lake Travis will be playing at Louisiana's Evangel Christian on either September 19 or 20 this Fall, depending on whether ESPN picks up the game. Evangel Christian will be returning the favor with two consecutive visits to Lake Travis.

Lake Travis was having a hard time finding an opponent for the remaining open slot in their non-district schedule. 5A powers Westwood, Westlake and Cedar Park are already on the Lake Travis 2008 non-district schedule. Then ESPN called about playing Sulphur Springs and Wichita Falls Rider. Too far away. But then Lake Travis suggested Evangel Christian - even farther away but a more glamorous opponent. Hence, the aforementioned three game series. But it is not certain if ESPN will pick up the 2008 game.

Evangel Christian isn't the power it was 3 years ago and is losing players everyday to coach John Booty new school Calvary Academy.

John Booty was the force behind EC record, as his sons Josh (LSU), John (USC) with Brock Berlin (Miami Fl) were products of his coaching.

Don't trust Louisiana schools to recriprocate the favor. Cedric Benson and Mildand Lee went to West Monroe for a game and the following year W.M. backed out of coming to Midland. Get this, they said it was too far and too expensive. Not sure how it works in high school but apparently no contract was signed. By the way, Cedric had a good game, one 88 yd run, but they got smoked.

Seriously? That will be fun.

I have a nephew who plays for Lake Travis and friends who are still very involved at Evangel. Hopefully they'll have it on the 19th.

as a product of both Lake Travis and Westwood.... this is allsome for Lake Travis. what the hell.. back in my day Lake Travis would play Brady, Burnet, Marble Falls, Liberty Hill, Dripping Springs, and Llano.... now we've got ECHS, Westlake, the Wood...... ******* crazy.

the Wood is not a power. even when we had both Marcus Wilkins and Oj McClintock, we weren't all that good.

Abhram Booty, Josh's(LSU) and John David (USC), brother also played at LSU as a WR. Never started but played a little bit. Abrham was the oldest than Josh and then John David.

The Lousiana public school coaches passed a new rule a few years ago that said private high schools had to play in their enrollment class. Evangel was a 1A school playing 5A football. When they had to play in their own class, they could no longer recruit as many good players to their school.

Liberty Hill really wanted that game against Lake Travis, and im glad that Lake Travis is sticking to their 5A scheduling philosophy.... Lake Travis and ESPN. what?

Gilbert vs Beavers would have been a hell of a game, as Rider returns several key players as well.

Lake Travis Coach Morris recently sent out an e-mail with this bit of news:

"We are scheduled to play nationally ranked Evangel Christian (Shreveport, LA) and it looks like it will broadcast on national TV (Fox) on Thursday, September 18. This game will be played in LT. This is going to be great exposure for our kids and program."

It appears that plans for this game have changed since I first posted on this subject. I wonder if there has been a role reversal with Lake Travis repaying Evangel Christian with two future visits to Shreveport?

I still remember when LT burned their logo in our crap excuse for a football field... Now they've moved on to bigger and better things.

i remember dripping springs spray painting a mile long

"Lake Travis Sucks"

along FM 12. .. this was early, early 90s
