Is there any substance to this rumor or is it far too early to tell?

Seastrunk hasn't decided anything yet, but there is plenty of substance to the idea that he loves USC. This is just speculation on my part, but I'm not very optimistic about him ever wearing burnt orange.

My worhtless opinion -
I think Sheppard would have ended up a Longhorn but Gilbert's early commit changed that. I think that was a good strategy for him - Gilbert, to declare early.

I warned you it was worthless.

I think he is USC bound. I'm sorry to not be optimistic since I know some recruits and their parents read these threads but there are too many red flags. One is that he wore a USC cap when one of our recruiting coaches visited his school from what I have heard. That is a big red flag in itself in my opinion. Also when they are not in a hurry and want to let enjoy to process and let it drag on is another red sign based on our experience in the past. I don't have much confidence in OOS or In State when they start doing hat tricks.
I would love to be wrong about our chances but I don't think we can take a chance and better get Mr. Sheed if he is willing to verbal quick.

I agree that it's impossible for anyone who posts here to know the thoughts of a 16 or 17 year old. That being said, Seastrunk's made no bones about how much he likes SC and LSU, and he's seemed to have cooled down to UT. That's not speculation, that's coming from people in Temple who know him.

The good thing out of all of this is that Texas isn't putting all of its' eggs in one basket. We're recruiting at least three other running backs instate, and perhaps more out of state. Texas will get at least two solid backs, no matter where Seastrunk ultimately winds up.

I don't think anybody's writing him off yet...it's too early. However, UT hasn't done well with recruits who seem to enjoy all of the attention from the big name schools and play the field, so-to-speak. If Seastrunk really liked the Horns as much as he allegedly once did, he probably already would be committed. He's not, and you don't have to read tea leaves to figure out he's a good bet to go someplace else.

Evidently he considers himself a Louisiana kid.

He made a comment in an article about his visit to LSU that it felt good to be back home. Not sure if he was a Katrina refuge but he seems to think of LA has his home state not Texas.

I just watched his new highlight video on RIVALS.

If he doesn't come to Texas, I will be in mourning.

Seriously ... I watched Curtis Dickey, Johnny Jones, David Overstreet, Eric Metcalf and just about every other serious speedster that has come through the state of Texas in the last 40 years and I have never seen a kid who so many seemingly have an angle on and yet they can't catch him.

Crazy, I know.

It's like his burst from 0 to 20 yards is simply beyond exceptional. He doesn't have the top and/or even mid range speed that Lam had but he's got to be the quickest accelerator I have ever seen.

He's Eric Metcalf but just a shade quicker and a shade faster.

Like Metcalf, he also appears to be an exceptional long jumper.

I really hate to say that anybody is a singular talent but, in 40 years of watching high school football, he's right up there . Different skill set than Eric Dickerson, Curtis Dickey, Earl Campell etc... but in their league.

I want the best guys on our team, and guys that want to be here. If Lache isn't two-for-two there then all the best to him.

But I'd really love to see another special one come through on offense that could create legends in Texas. You know...the Benson, Roy, Vince types. I'm not talking about guys who turn it up once they get here. The Texas HS kid that everyone has been just waiting for years for him to graduate. That kind. It's just good story, I guess.

Seastrunk is one of those. I wonder if he sees that, or has any desire to be a part of that (as part of his school choice).

I dont know how ANYONE in the world would think that Chris Whaley has ANYTHING AT ALL to do with whether or not Lache goes to Texas or SC. That has got to be one of the wildest statement that I have ever seen on here. lol

if whaley runs for 2k as a true frosh, i will crap a golden cinder block. i think he's good, but i'd love to eat some crow after saying that he's not adrian peterson.

Unless Whaley turns out to be Earl crossed with Ricky in Brandon Jacobs' body, throw me in the camp that says Texas would be a better option for a top RB prospect in the upcoming class. SC has a stable of backs that were nationally ranked recruits, and already two (possibly three) committed for 2010. Not that a little competition at the position isn't a good thing, but even a single misstep could bury a guy in the depth chart with company like that. Honestly, I would be so bold as to say LSU will be our real competition for Lache. But of course all any of us can do is speculate at this point....

Speaking of USC, I see that they already has commitments for 2010 from two of the top RB in California -- D.J. Morgan and Dillon Baxter. If Lache does go to USC, that would be quite a logjam in the backfield (also taking into account all the RB's they already have on campus). I am all for stocking the depth chart and wanting recruits to think they can beat out all competition, but it would be ridiculous to voluntarily go into a situation like that. There are plenty of schools that offer much more favorable depth chart situations.

I still think LSU is our main competition for Seastrunk, and we already know Lester will tell Lache whatever he wants to hear. We're gonna get one or two very good running backs this year anyway, but I'd love to get Seastrunk and put him in much the same role here that Bush played for USC. I see him as that kind of running back. Imagine him and Whaley as our version of thunder and lightning...

Dillon Baxter is coming in as a WR.

The depth chart at RB for USC in 2010 won't be deep. If a couple of players leave early, we may be in desperate need of RB cause we didn't recruit any in 2008 or 2009. It depends on what happens with Gable and McKnight.

I dunno where USC stands with Seastrunk but it's very early. We'll know more after the Rising Stars Camp, which he'll be attending. I heard he likes USC but also LSU. I'm sure Texas will be in the mix. I bet he ends up at one of the three.

Somebody earlier said Seastrunk made a reference to "being home" when he visited Baton Rouge. I'm not sure what the connection is, but folks in Temple who know him say Seastrunk really likes LSU. I seriously doubt Seastrunk knows what he wants yet, but I think LSU is a very serious player for his services, and Lester knows how to tell a player what he wants to hear.

Until he makes a final decision, I like our chances with Seastrunk. Temple is a whole lot closer to Austin than LA or Baton Rouge. Just because a kid wears someone else's hat or shirt doesn't mean squat. A lot of that is just them being cool.
