Kyoto - line outside?

It seems that every time that I drive past Kyoto after work around 6, 7pm there is a line outside Kyoto on Congress. Now I only do this about once a month but it seems there is always a line outside Kyoto. What gives? Someone told me that Kyoto has 1/2 off if you are the 1st to get seated when they open for dinner. True?

It is Happy Hour.

It is ok, but not worth standing in line for.

From 6 to 6:45 they have their happy hour.

Prices are probably less than half price honestly. It's a really good deal. Worth standing in line for.

I've never participated in their 'happy minutes', but i did look on their website & it said HH from 2-7? Anyway, that's not as big a con as kyoto because it's not during normal HH time & it's not called 'happy hour'.

Con? Wouldn't a con be if they told you it ran from x time to x time and then shortened it? Will Father Time sue them or something?

Thank you for not eating there though, less crowded for me.

more power to you man. gorge yourself on unagi & kirin, & i'll get sloshed on dollar cuervo shots that last longer than 45 minutes.

I went there with my wife on Monday. I thought I posted this but it didn't work. Anyway, I guess the line exists b/c the happy hour is only 45min and they don't start seating until 6pm. The rolls were a great price and we had some sashimi (or whatever raw fish sans rolls is called). It was good but definitely no mushashino (sp?). But then again much cheaper too.

It is def. not Mus or Uch but tasty. I like the whole ambience of it to include wating in line. There is usally some hot tail to watch while you wait.

I am down, let's do it. It is a spot I frequent for sure during the day shows of SXSW. Convenient, a good break away and cheap.

Danny1010 and I go pretty damn often. Where else can you get a full roll of sushi for 3 bucks? Standing in line sucks, but it's part of the experience. Unfortunately, we always feel sick afterwards because we usually order way way more food than we can eat.... and they get upset if you don't finish it, so we stuff it down. "No take home".

The 'Kyoto / Elephant Room' combo has to be one of if not THE best date combo's available here.

Unfortunately, my wife isn't into Sushi @ all & doesn't want to try their tempura... & she's not anywhere the jazz fan I am (she's more the KASE 101 type).

I love both yet you have never asked me out on a Sushi/Jazz date. I love Mondays as that is open mic night at Elephant and the talent is tremendous.

You can also order food from Kyoto and take it down and eat it in the Elephant Room if you like. At least you used to be able to do it.
