After the off-duty officer was shot by gang-bangers, sheriff is doing an end-around of Gascon's office due to his unwillingness to 1) pursue gun enhancements, 2) pursue gang enhancements, and 3) seek long sentences. So the Sheriff is handing the case off to the federal prosecutors, who DO have an option of as much as the death penalty for the gang-bangers using a gun in the commission of a murder of a peace officer...
