Despite light rain still falling and the threat of more it looks like we will try and play some baseball today. Texas looks to bounce back from midweek loss to UTA and get back on the winning track against KSU in another home conference series. A doubleheader will tried to be played today starting at about 4:05.

Parker French, who has pitched well all season will get his regular first game start for the Horns.

It's going to be a long hard day of baseball, that will be played in less than optimal conditions. Hopefully we can get both games in or at least one. Tomorrow the weather is supposed to be much better so getting one in is crucial to get the entire series in. You also hope that nobody gets hurt as there should be lots of slipping and sliding on the field turf today.

The games are on LHN and the audio is

Parker French, the senior right handed ace for the Horns takes his warm up pitches on a damp mound. You can bet that the mound area and the batter's box will receive plenty of diamond dry and raking during the course of the day and evening.

The big change for this game is Clemens starting at first base, for the first time this year. He is the scheduled starting pitcher in the third game of this series.

Leading off against him for KSU is the DH Carter Yagi, from the left side.
A chopper toward short is tried to be cut off by Boswell and it goes off his glove for an error.

Clayton Dalrymple, the right fielder bats righty with one on.
He lays down the sac bunt and the 1-3 play is one away.

The first baseman Shane Conlon, bats lefty with one on and one down.
The count runs full and he walks on a high slider to put two on.

Steve Seratore, also bats lefty with two on and one out.
The KSU third sacker lines a shot just off Boswell's glove and into left for a rbi single.

KSU leads 1-0.

The left field Danny Krause bats righty with one down and two on.
A ground ball to second is a 4-6-3 double play to retire the side.

So an unearned run puts KSU to the lead 1-0 as Texas comes to bat.

Nate Griep, starts for KSU on the mound. The stocky right hander is the KSU ace.

Johnson steps in the right handed box to lead off against him for Texas.
The count goes full and he takes an inside pitch for ball four and a lead base runner.

Barrera bats for the first time from the right side and still a chance to tie the game with two gone.
He gets jammed, but drops a flair down the right field line for a double as he legs it out to second.
Johnson scores to tie it up.

Game tied 1-1.

Marlow steps in lefty and can give the Horns the lead with a man at second and two down.
He grounds a single through on the left side, but Barrera has to hold at third.

Runners on the corners for Boswell, batting lefty. He can give Texas the lead and atone for the error that gave KSU it's run in the first.
Another full count and Marlow will be on the move and an outside pitch loads the bases on the walk.

The pitching coach will come to the mound for a visit and now returns.

Freshman Cantu, the DH can give the Horns a crooked number in the first with a clutch hit.
He bats righty and yet another full count and everybody goes now.
An inside pitch is another walk to force in a run.

Texas leads 2-1.

Clemens, at first today bats lefty and the bases still juiced and two gone.
Another full count and another time they all go and a liner right at the second baseman ends the inning.

Texas responds and after one played leads 2-1.

French back to the hill now enjoys a lead as the second begins.

The KSU catcher Tyler Moore, will lead off from the right side.

The nine hole hitter is Nate Wodtke, from the right side.
The KSU second baseman with one on and two gone swings and misses a low slider and French strikes out the side.

Bottom of two and Texas leads 2-1.

Griep is back for the second, after he barely suvived the first.

Gurwitz bats in the nine hole, from the right side.
He skies a pop to second for one down.

Johnson will bring the top of the order back for the Horns.
The right handed hitting left fielder grounds to short and the 6-3 is two gone.

Shaw up with two away from the left side.
He pops the first pitch up on the left side and the shortstop has it to retire the side in order.

Two gone and Texas leads 2-1.

French returns for his third inning of work on the bump for the Horns.

Leading off for KSU is the top of the lineup in the DH, Yagi.
He loops one just over Marlow and into right for a lead single.

Dalrymple up righty, with one on.
The runner goes and Marlow is able to get back and field a grounder and from his knees fires to first for one away as the runner moves to second.

Conlon bats lefty with one on and one down.
He lines a single to left and the runner rounds third and the throw from Johnson in left on a hop is in time on the tag from Barrera. It's a 7-2 second out. I'm surprised they sent the runner with Johnson's arm.

Steve Serratore, bats lefty with one on and two down.
He one hops a ball back to French and the 1-3 retires the side.

Johnson with the outfield assist, keeps Texas in the lead at 2-1 after two.

Hinojosa leads off for Texas from the right side.
Another full count as Griep has had command problems.
Hinojosa walks on an inside pitch to put another lead man on.

Barrera bats righty with one aboard. His bloop double tied the game for the Horns in the first.
He squares to bunt twice and fouls both off.
Then he is frozen by a curve ball and takes it over the heart of the plate for a K and one away.

Marlow bats lefty with one on and one down.
A fly ball to left is two gone.

Boswell will be up now with one on and two outs from the left side.
C.J. goes and a big jump gets him the steal with ease.
Boswell can drive him home now with a two out hit.
Another full count and he walks again to put two aboard.

Cantu up with two on and two down.
The righty hitting DH, can do some damage with a hit.
He lines a ball toward the gap in right center, but the right fielder has it on the run to retire the side.

Three in the books so far and Texas leads 2-1.

French could use a quick inning as the fourth is here. He has not been getting the sinker down and has had to pitch out of trouble a lot so far. The run was unearned though in the first because of Boswell's error.

Leading off for KSU is Krause from the right side.
A big chop to Boswell goes 5-3 for one out.

The catcher Moore, bats righty with one gone.
The count is full and a liner to left is another single to put a man on.

Brown bats right handed with one on and one down.
He sends a fly ball to fairly deep center that Gurwitz has for two away.

Wolfe will be next from the right side with two gone and one on.
The nine hole hitter grounds to second and Marlow goes to first to end the frame.

French keeps putting men on, but keeps getting out of it and Texas leads 2-1 to the bottom of four.

Griep has had control problems, but has held the Horns scoreless since the first and comes out in the fourth.

Clemens will lead off for Texas, batting lefty after he lined out with the bases loaded in the first.
Sure like having his glove at first again.
Another walk and another lead runner and the Horns need to start getting some of these runners across the plate.

Gurwitz up righty and he lays it down and the pitcher had a play at second, but went to first for the 1-3 sac.

Johnson, back again at the top of the order bats righty with the first chance to drive another run home with one down.
A high pop up to second won't get it done and it's two away.

Shaw up with a man at second and two gone.
The lefty hitter needs a clutch job or the Horns will strand yet another runner in scoring position.
He puts a charge into one to center and the center fielder goes back, back, and as he tumbles to the turf makes the catch to rob Shaw and save a run.

Four innings played and Texas leads 2-1.

French still looks for a perfect frame as he comes out in the fifth and hopefully qualify for the win.

Wodtke leads off for the Wildcats from the right side.
A bloop to right and Marlow goes back in shallow right for the out.

Yagi is the DH, and the lead off hitter for the Wildcats with one down from the left side.
He takes a fast ball over and it's a backward K for two away.

Dalrymple bats righty with two outs.
A grounder up the middle and Hinojosa has it and his on the run throw nips him at first to retire the side in order and a quick inning Parker really needed.

Halfway through the first game of the series and Texas leads 2-1.

Griep stays out there as the Texas fifth comes.

Hinojosa leads off for the Horns from the right side.
A fly ball to left is an easy first out.

Barrera bats righty with one down.
A ball hit well to left and it dies and the left fielder has it just short of the track for two outs.

Marlow up with two gone from the left side.
He shoots a liner to right for a single and a two out runner.
Wouldn't be surprised if he goes here with two down.

Bowell up with two gone and one on.
He chops a ball by the pitcher on the right side and there is no play and the infield hit puts two aboard.

So again Texas has a chance to play add on, as Cantu bats righty with two on and two down.
A fly ball to right will strand two more as that retires the side.

Five played and Texas leads 2-1.

French starts the sixth clinging to the one run lead.

Conlon leads off for the Wildcats from the left side.
He slaps a ground ball to second and the 4-3 is one away as the rain gets heavier.

The third basman Serratore has the lone run batted in for KSU and bats lefty with one away.
He rips a low liner to first and Clemens has it just above the turf for two gone.
Krause bats righty with two outs.
He lines a shot to the left center gap that goes to the wall for a double.

Moore bats right handed with the tying run at second and two away.
A ground ball up the middle goes into center and the run scores on the single.

Game tied at 2-2.

Skip comes out for a meeting and leaves French in.

The batter went to second on the throw home.

Brown bats righty, with the lead run at second and two away.
Another ground ball up the middle, but Hinojosa has this one and the 6-3 put out retires the side.

Two hits after two outs ties the game and to the bottom half of the sixth the game is now tied 2-2.

Griep is done and the new KSU pitcher is Brandon Courville, a big right hander from Flower Mound.

Clemens leads off for the Horns from the left side.
A ground ball to second and it's a 4-3 first out.

Gurwitz, in the nine hole bats righty with one gone.
He K's swinging on a low breaker for two away.

Johnson up one more time at the top of the order batting from the right side.
He lines a shot to right and the right fielder makes the catch on the run and bounces off the fence and goes down, but he is up and ok.

Texas goes in order and again the bats go silent in another game and we are tied 2-2 after six.

French still pitches in the seventh and he has struggled some for him.

Wolfe bats righty as the lead hitter in the KSU half of the inning.
The count runs full and a borderline pitch is called ball four and it's a lead walk.

Wodtke up to bunt no doubt.

Skip comes out again and leaves him in.

Wodtke steps in right handed with one on.
A pitch off Barrera's glove goes back to the screen and the passed ball puts the runner at second.
He bunts and French looks at third and then goes to first and throw it away at first and the error scores the lead run and the batter goes to second.

KSU leads 3-2.

Skip out and that is all for French.
Pitching change.

Kirby Bellow comes in as the new pitcher for the Horns. The lefty will have a runner at second and no outs.

Ugly turn of events for Texas and Bellow needs to get out of the inning without further damage, but that's a hard assignment.

The top of the order is Yagi, the DH from the left side with one on.
He grounds to Marlow and he goes to third and Texas really botches the run down play and the batter goes to second on the 4-5-4-5 first out. Too many throws and you can't do that in a run down with a batter running behind him.

Dalrymple from the right side against the lefty Bellow.
Another ground ball to second and the 4-3 is a second out as the runner goes to third.

Conlon bats lefty with two out and a runner at third.
A roller to short and the 6-3 retires the side.

Another unearned run for KSU, gives them the lead 3-2 as they stretch in the rain in Austin.

Courville is back for the Texas seventh on the hill.

Shaw leads off from the left side as the Horns look to score for the first time since the first inning.
He looked terrible as he swings at two pitches in the dirt for a K and one down.

Hinojosa bats righty with one away.
He flies out to short left for two outs.

Barrera bats right handed with two gone.
A ground ball to third and what should have been an easy out is an error on a low throw that skips by the first baseman for an error.

Marlow bats lefty with two outs and one on.
A fly ball to right and that retires the side.

Texas just looks dead in the water right now and they better snap out of it or it's going to be another bad loss.

Seven played and KSU leads 3-2.

Bellow pitches the eighth for Texas.

Serratore leads off for the Wildcats from the left side.
A sharp grounder to first and Clemens snags a tough hop and takes it to the bag for one away.

Krause bats with one down from the right side.
His ground ball to third is booted by Boswell for his second error of the game and the third one for Texas.

Moore bats with one down and one on from the right side.
The runner goes as a high fly to right is caught by Shaw for two away and the runner goes back to first.

Center fielder Brown, bats with two outs and one on.
The runner goes and the throw by Barrera and he is ruled out on a very close play as the tag was on the foot.
It retires the side.

Bottom of eight and KSU leads 3-2.

Courville back out again in the eighth.

Boswell leads off for the Horns from the left side.
He slaps a liner to left down the line for a big lead double.

Cantu up righty with the tying run at second.
He squares and fouls off a pitch at his head.
So he lines a double to the gap in right center to tie the game!

Game tied at 3-3.

A pinch runner comes in for Cantu and the freshman gets a well deserved hand as he leaves. Stell in to run at second.

Coach out and a change is made at pitcher.

Run production in the last 3 innings haven't been the problem so far this year. The problem has been something else that I won't mention to avoid the jinx.

Freshmen with back to back doubles have tied it up.

The new KSU pitcher is Bryce Ward, yet another big right hander.

Clemens will be his first batter from the left side and up probably to move the lead run to third.
Instead he lines the first pitch to right for a single and the right fielder boots it and Stell after holding up comes in to score and give the Horns the lead. It's a hit and an error to let Stell score.

Texas leads 4-3.

Gurwitz up with one on from the right side.
He bunts and the sac goes 1-4 for one down.

Johnson up without a hit, brings the top of the order and Ben needs to join the hit parade and give the Horns some breathing room.
He remains without, a knock as he flies out to shallow center for two gone.

Shaw bats lefty with a runner still at second and two gone.
He lines a single to right and that plates Kacy.

Texas leads 5-3.

Hinojosa up with a man on and two gone.
A ground ball to third and the first baseman fields a low throw and that retires the side.

Texas comes alive finally and takes a 5-3 lead to the ninth. You need somebody to close this out still though.

Kyle Johnston, the freshman right hander with the high velocity is in to try and close it out. He can have control problems though and a closer can't have that.

Brown leads off against him from the right side.
A 2-0 count brings another trip from Skip and he says to throw strikes and leaves.
The count runs full and a big pitch comes now and he walks him on a high fast ball.

Here comes Skip and you can't let a guy without control stick around in this situation and he is gone.

Pitching change.

Freshman right hander Connor Mayes, who pitched so well last weekend is on to try to close this out for the Horns.

Wolfe, from the right side is his first hitter.
A ground ball up the middle is through for a single and the tying runs are on.

A pinch hitter is Alex Bee, from the left side.

Skip out again and another change is made.

Whew, tight game at the end but the good guys rally to win 5-3 in the opener !!!

Nice job on the PBP by Senor NBHorn7 :hookem:

Game 2 coming up....

Ty Culbreth, a left hander and one of the closers used is on to try to put out this fire.

Keith Browning will pinch hit now from the right side.
He doesn't bunt and a ground ball to first is a 3-6 force for one down.

Runners on the corners now for the lead off hitter Yagi, the DH, hitting lefty with one away.
A pop on the right side is squeezed by Marlow right on the line for two outs.

Dalrymple bats with two on and two down, from the right side.
A ground ball to second and the 4-3 ends the game.

Texas wins 5-3 and a good job by Culbreth to get the save.

That's a big win that the Horns just had to have.

Looks like we will try to play more hardball today and I'll be back as the Horns go for an important sweep in the second game. :hookem2::bevo:
