...is overrated. Why does every announcer keep saying "he is the best player on the planet, but..." That is just stupid. Paul Pierce exposed him this entire series.

Where is the leadership? He is not a leader, simple as that. He thrived when Shaq was the leader but has failed miserably since he has taken over the role. That was about as pitiful of a performance over this series as I have ever seen by a player who is suppose to be so great.

Give me Lebron James any day because he can atleast keep a team competitive.

Kobe is a great player, but he is not an elite all-time player. HOFer, yes...VERY good, yes. I agree with the statement that he shows MJ talent some of the time, but he never maintains it. He plays unbelievable defense for a time, but never maintains it over a game. He can go crazy offensively, but where is it in the biggest games of his career so far? It sure wasn't there this series.

Everyone will say that his teammates let him down, well they had his "...DNA..." This is all on him and deservedly so.

The best was Kobe's response after Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals this year:

"I can go off at any time."

Whatever. Can you go off in the Finals? Guess not. Kobe doesn't play defense, yet he was named 1st team NBA all-defense?? Kobe quits on screens, and saves his energy for the offensive side of the ball. Unbelievable.

one big difference are the NEW defensive rules where a guy can be triple, quadrupled, or whole team -teamed just after touching the ball. Jordan never had to deal with this kind of streetball defense. Yes, I know the 90s had the Knicks and Heat with thugball but they were not legally allowed to surround the ball. Jordan also had better players in the 90s than Kobe did post 2003.

Kobe is the best player in the world, despite this series. Lebron just matches up better vs. a physical team but Kobe has more upside scoring potential.

I love how anytime someone wants to critizize a really good NBA player, they pull the "Yeah well, he plays no defense" card. Sometimes it's true of course (Nash, LeBron his first couple of years in the league, used to be true of Ray Allen although he's become really good), but often it's just a silly way to make up something to criticize. I remember people saying it about Durant when analyzing if he or Oden should get picked #1, which was ludicrous. It's ludicrous here, too - Kobe is a good defender.

....is the best player in the league/planet, just not on the best team. The Celtics are a better team with a great bench.

Kobe is a great talent.

However, he disappeared in this series too many times to think he is categorically the best player on the planet.

Yeah, Kobe came up short in the Finals. Every other player you think is better than Kobe, other than the Celtics, came up even shorter.

I'm not a Kobe fan, but look who he's playing with and look who Paul Pierce is playing with. Kobe did a lot with very little this year. And he's legitimately one of the best defenders in the league.

Amazing talent, but he's a freaking punk, and a joke of a leader.

He throws elbows and forearms constantly, esp. on O, and not only does it never get called, the idiot announcers NEVER acknowledge it. I was shocked last year when the league actually suspended him for his flailing shot at Ginobili while Kobe was attempting a 3... as I recall the refs at the time let it go. He is a DIRTY player, plain and simple, because he is allowed to get away with it. Not so much anymore, but he use to go up for a "running" jumper, hang in the air and lean into the defender(no ball fake), and get the call 100% of the time from the NBA lapdog refs. Yes he can play mad defense but consider the latitude he gets when it comes to slapping and reaching(case in point end of game 5).

Anyway, he and the Lakers and Phil were exposed tonight... no complaints here.

Ok, then prove to me exactly why Kobe should be considered an all-time great. One MVP? 81 points? Playing for the Lakers? Bring out some actual stats that show him being a Top 10 or Top 15 player of all-time. Show me where he has changed the game or really set it apart. Show me something that says he is something more than just the best player in the league right now.

He is definitely a HOFer, which is an all-time great, but I am not sure he is Top 15. I think he can get there, but he isn't there yet. That is why I said "ELITE" all-time great. In fact, he isn't even the best player of this decade. That would be Tim Duncan, who has the stats for his position and the championships to back it up. Furthermore, he was & is the main guy on his championship teams. Shaq would probably be second.

I will await a response, but I seriously doubt anyone can actually make a legitimate argument.

Here's the difference between Kobe and Jordan once and for all:

Kobe at his most wants to be the best player in the world. Congrats, he's there.

Jordan at his most, wanted to win the most. Period. Being the best in the world and never winning would have been the greatest of humiliation.

You are his mom? He makes a good point and backs it up with facts. You don't make a good point and have no facts of substance. He should give it up?

There's not one "fact" in this thread...it's all his opinion. You're clever though.

Like I said, you want LeBron? Go look at what he did last year in the Finals.

Loop is right. You basically just crowned him yourself. When the only retort you have is an attack on his style... it shows you can't fight the substance.

Kobe is an accused rapist, an admitted adulterer, a Jordan wannabe, and an overall disgrace to the human race. Other than that. He can ball pretty good, yo.

My brother is a big Kobe hater too, but he made a good point the other day; The fact that we even debate who is better-MJ vs Kobe-should tell you that Kobe is the real deal.

The haters wouldn't have the venom they have for him if he wasn't good. So, say you hate him; call him a punk; jerk; drama queen; rapists; but don't say he doesn't play defense.

Thats absurd.

Kobe is very good defender, but not consistently. He got destroyed by Rondo last night. He takes long periods of time off to focus on offense. He is one of the best in the league when he wants to be, but he just doesn't keep it up.

I am not sure why Kobe fans take such exception to the facts I present. I say that he is a HOFer and the best or second best player in the league. My only arguments are that he is not a Top 15 all-time player and that he shrinks statistically in the Finals. I guess being a Top 20 or Top 25 player all-time is some kind of slight.

I don't see how anyone can argue his lack of leadership abilities. They just aren't there.

Kobe against Boston. 40% 25.6points, 4.2 rebs, 6assists. Lebron 37% 27.3points, 6.4 rebounds, 7.6 assists.

Lebron did get better as the series went on as Kobe got worse though. . His last two games 32/12/6 on 9-23 shooting and 14-29 shooting. Kobe went 24/3/6 and 22/3/1 on 9-26 and 7-22.
