Know anyone w/ stainless steel countertops?

My wife wants to put stainless steel countertops in our kitchen. I've seen it in lots of industrial kitchens but never a house. I'm concerned it would scratch a lot and look like crap over time, but I also think it might look kinda cool and different. My wife really wants something that's different than all of her friends have. Any thoughts or experiences?

Is she sure this is what she wants other than to be different? They will get scratched but if you maintain them they will last a long time. Besides, no way you will use them as much or with such heavy use as a commercial kitchen. This is unless you do catering, do you?

I guess it would like okay and I am sure they are offered as Stainless is a current trend. But what about when it is not? Will she still be happy being an outdated type of different? If so, go for it since they will last a long time. I think they look cool with some marks on them.

i think they would be a pain in the *** personally.

why not go with concrete. it's different and looks awesome with a good concrete stain. lots of options and i haven't seen a lot of houses with it.

Thats a pretty modern look. If its your last house then go for it but if you ever plan to sell it then be prepared for 99% of potential buyers to hate them. They work fine, lots of friends had them where I used to live.

Speaking as a Chick that likes looking at houses I would be turned off with stainless steel counter tops. Maybe it's because I can't picture it in a home kitchen and just think of a restaurant kitchen. I can appreciate not wanting to have something that everyone has. I would consider concrete. You can stain or not depending on the look you're going for.

I worked at an post-production/design house in Santa Monica with some real creative people. One of the two owners (the design guy of the partnership) wanted to put in a stainless steel counter & sink. So they did.

We even had the industrial faucet hose thing that hangs down from above and you grab it and squeeze the handle thing to spray water.

There wasn't any problem keeping the stuff clean. It was industrial kitchen-ish. It seems a little odd for a house, but there's nothing wrong with it.

I have black granite and stainless. The stainless is much easier to keep clean and polished. It is scratched but, for us, that is part of the look. I don't see how it would be practical if you want to maintain a polished as glass look.

I had never even heard of concrete countetop until I moved into my rental duplex. I like it. I can chop on it, crack pecans on it, and everything just wipes off.
