knockout 'game'

It seems if you read the news that this game is spreading to major cities across the country. What is Holder going to do to address it? Or is it just a localized crime to be handled individually in each locality where it is happening?

What should be said, what should law enforcement do, at the local, state, national level?(if anything)

Mich, So the attacks are nothing then? The video I saw this morning after clicking on the link showed people walking close to baggy pants guys, minding their own business, who were attacked for seemingly no reason?!?

One group of guys the second guy in the group attacks the victim from behind after the first one passes.

Men attacking women like this is as raw as it gets imho.

Should there not be a national outrage?

Besides prosecuting the criminals who play this "game," what do you suggest Holder, or anyone else, can do about the problem? It's depressing to consider.
I'd like to see Dirty Harry appear out of nowhere and blow away these punks, but it isn't likely to occur.

I can't remember where but some news organization researched this using public information from an FBI database and found this behavior has been around since the 80's by teenagers and has not significantly increased over that time. The name of the game has simply changed over time. Only the fact that we now have videos of these assaults has changed over time. That also sells as "news" and draws hits to a website. It's NOT an epidemic let alone a very common problem.

This is simply assault and should be pursued and prosecuted as such.

How did I know you weren't linking to this story?

And this idiot can't claim that he is a stupid immature teenager that was egged on by a group of friends into committing the attack.

Zork, I don't think anybody's saying that the attacks are "nothing." I think they're saying that despite all the recent news coverage, this is ultimately just a handful of thugs assaulting people. It's not really a national crisis that warrants Holder's actions. Just prosecute the perpetrators through the local court systems like you would any other assault. Frankly, all the media attention probably makes the matter worse, because the attention-grabbers are wanting to do it now.

I'm going to say that this is a technology issue as much as anything else. This type of stupid stuff has been going on forever. But, in the past a guys group of friends were the only ones to see it. Now that everybody is walking around with a video camera on their phone and the Internet is just waiting for this type of stupidity, it has gained national attention. Im hoping that the videos will make it easier to catch the dumbasses.

While brutal crimes such as these are terrible, it doesn't seem to point to a larger overall trend in violent crime. Most of us, myself included, have a "the world is going to crap" view of things from time to time. But, from a personal safety perspective, things are much better than they used to be.

Geez Larry: Why do you have to go on bringing facts and statistics into this? Wouldn't it be preferable to be scared and angry? Sure sober driving would save a lot more lives and injuries than complete elimination of intentional criminal behavior, but we need an excuse to arm up like Armageddon is around the corner.

I've always thought labeling something a "hate crime" was stupid, and I don't see any difference here. It may or may not be a trend, but I'm not really sure what's to be done about it legally other than prosecute them and/or punch back.

The world is a dangerous place. You cant protect everyone from a random freak sucker punching someone and then running away, just like you cant stop someone from grabbing a pencil and jamming it into the back of someone's neck randomly.

If they do it, then you prosecute them. Thats really about it. Do a better job of raising your children I guess, and keep them off prescription drugs that make them go crazy.
