Knebel Wants To Be A Starter

It seems Knebel would like to be a starting pitcher
and wanted to start against Aggy last week.

The Link

Now there is a shake up in the rotation with French
starting this Friday against Missouri.

The next two days are listed as TBA for our starting
pitchers. Depending what happens in the first game it appears that Thornhill will start Saturday
and possibly Knebel would start Sunday's game.

It seems we are experimenting with pitchers because of the impending tournament and playoff
games to come.

I guess also maybe they feel Knebel deserves to
get a start that he wants because of the way he has
been used this season.

He has been unhappy about it and even Augie
admitted they had been misusing him. He hasn't
started Knebel he said because he didn't
know who would close without Cory.

I guess now he thinks maybe Peters, Curtis, or Milner could be used in that capacity now.

The only problem I have is what about Jacquez?
He doesn't seem like a reliever because of his
wildness.

I guess he could be used in middle relief if he
came in to start an inning. I wouldn't want him
coming in having to throw strikes with men on
base.

The other option to me would be to start Curtis,
that seems his future destination next season.

Someday I may find out what happened to Josh
Urban. He is a mystery to me, it's like he just
dropped off the face of the earth in regards to
pitching. I still wonder if he got hurt or is in Augie's
doghouse for something.

It will be interesting to see how it all plays out.
Something did need to be done. I don't know if
this is the answer.

NB, this has nothing to do with the topic of your posts, but your posts always look like poems to me.

Journalism school at Texas has been branded into
my brain.

Must start new paragraphs, yes Dr. Quinn, I understand
Dr. Quinn.

Dr. Quinn was as good as it got for a teacher by
the way. He was also a big UT baseball fan.

Once I showed up for class and he said isn't there
a game today? I said yes, he said then what are
you doing here? I said I thought you said class
was important. He replied "not on game days."

Then he said I will see over there after class now get out of here. I never questioned his judgement
after that.

He died last year, he was a great teacher, a
great representative of the University, and just
a great guy in general.

Looks like a sonnet, but the pattern is not quite right. Which reminds me...in the immortal words of Billy Shakespere...

To start Knebel or not start Knebel that is the question:
Whether tis Nobler in Augie's mind that he suffer
The Slings and Arrows of a closer.

My Poem "Ode to Knebel"

Augie wonders if he will be able.
To start our pitcher named Knebel.
But if he does his part.
Then maybe we start.
To make our staff more stable.

Sorry for breaking up the mood, but I am just a numbers-guy and have no literary talent.

I am having a hard time correlating the comments (or misleading quotes) in the Daily Texan
article mentioned above with the radio interviews of AG. I did not listen to the YNN interview as mentioned
in the other parallel thread. I do not sense anything about Knebel being disgruntled for his not starting.

Corey wanted to start the last Aggie game because he was unused and wanted the ball because
it was a historic last regular season game with a huge rival. He is a very good pitcher who
either can start or close. AG's problem is how to best use him with such a young, inexperienced
pitching staff with its common problem of inconsistency. That and the extra inning games are
what has caused the uneven use of him as just a closer or long reliever. That is frustrating him.

The quote by Knebel about "maybe next year" can be taken to mean that, with the young pitchers
becoming better starters next year, maybe he will not be needed as a closer as much. I am
taking his desire to start the Aggie game as just wanting to perform in a very key game after having
been unused in the series.

Maybe other posters have have heard more than I?
