Knebel named to All-American first team
Thursday, June 2, 2011 | Michael Adams
AUSTIN — Texas freshman reliever Corey Knebel was named to the Louisville Slugger NCAA Division I All-American First Team, announced Thursday by Collegiate Baseball newspaper.

He was one of two Longhorns named to the all-american team as pitcher Taylor Jungmann was also selected to the first team.

Knebel, who played for Bastrop High School from 2007-09, broke a UT freshman record for saves with 16 and is three saves shy of tying a UT record for most saves in a single season. He leads the Big 12 with 16 saves.

The record is currently held by Charlie Thomas (2000) and Brent Cox (2005) with 19 saves.

Knebel has a record of 2-2 having worked 47.6 innings with 56 strikeouts and 12 walks. He has an earned run average of 1.32.

He was named to the All-Big 12 First Team while Jugmann was a unanimous selection for the Big 12 Pitcher of the Year.

The 17-man first team, chosen by performances up to regional playoffs and picked by the staff of Collegiat Baseball newspaper, features 11 conference players of pitchers of the year.

Trevor Bauer of UCLA was named Collegiate Baseball’s National Player of the Year as he had the most strikeouts in the nation with 189 and three nine complete games, including eight in a row to end the regular season.

Keneble and the No. 7 Texas Longhorns (43-15) open the NCAA Austin Regional Friday at UFCU DishFalk Field against Princeton at 6:30 p.m.

Texas is looking for it’s seventh national championship in baseball. The Longhorns won the College World Series in 1949, 1950, 1975, 1983, 2002 and 2005.

Can't they spell these names correctly? It's "Charlie THAMES" (spelled like the river but rhymes with "games").
