Kirk Bohls toys with our emotions

From his usual Monday column:

Gail Goestenkors got a one-year reprieve from her athletic director, Chris Plonsky, and let's hope she makes the most of it. If not, Texas should call Geno Auriemma and offer him $2 million a year for 10 years. It's not as if Texas doesn't have the money, and Geno surely could use a new challenge. Maybe Texas could offer a Geno Network.

I bet this would sell a few tickets

Some of the sunshine pumpers would have a problem with this: geno is a MALE and goestenkors is supposed to be the "BEST COACH EVER" in the history of the game!!! Miss Perfect! and a signature collection to go with it.

This article is one of the many reasons why I think Bohls is a dumbass. Have we learned nothing from the situation we are in? Yes Geno is one of the top coaches in women's basketball but I think he would struggle in his early years the same way Goetenkors has struggled. If Goestenkors had trouble making a connection with high school coaches, Geno is 10x more abrasive. If we do replace, look at the Mack Brown model. Find a coach that is having good success at a program that underfunds/underappreciates women's basketball and bring them to UT with our resources and watch them flourish.

I've read that Geno is brash so that may not work well at Texas. I think an up and coming coach would be much better for Texas.

Unfortunately we wont cross that bridge for another year as Plonsky still thinks she can fit a square peg in a round hole.

What Stat said. Geno is obviously a great coach, but - with apologies to friends and Horn fans from the northeast - he may be too much "Yankee" to get along with the high school coaches and students in Texas. Besides leaving his legacy at UConn behind (hasn't worked out for GG), he'd also be leaving a $1.6 mill / yr base. Would it be worth a $2++ million per yr risk?

Find a good young up-and-comer who can recruit the best Texas blue chips.
