Kind words from Seth Davis

but these guys have no clue. Why he writes the "roster will return intact", I can't imagine where he's getting his info. Some people have even speculated both Myck and Brown will go. I don't see Brown staying. What is he gonna stay for, is he gonna magically grow two inches, because that's what he needs to do to be a successful shooting guard in the NBA.

I think when Brown leaves he should seriously consider playing overseas. Does anybody on this board really think Brown is coming back?

Brown is 6'1 and 200 lbs. Not extremely quick or scary on defense. He is a good college shooter, pro shooter?

Europe maybe, NBA, Rookie min. I don't really see Brown thriving in the NBA.

Kabongo needs another year of seasoning. Look at TJ and DJ as examples. Good Freshman years and stellar sophomore years.

I would say he has more than just a clue; his comments make perfect sense, actually. Does anyone know for certain who will, or won't stay? No. But do the odds favor the roster staying in tact at this point? Yes, or that's more than likely than not at any rate. And whatever happens, this squad has done better, and gone farther than anyone expected. And most of our non-seniors will return, even if one or two don't. And we are also bringing in a great class next season. Seth's comments were just presenting the facts as they are currently known, that's all.

I remember years ago fans proclaiming how great Reggie Freeman was and that he would be a top round draft pick. Folks didn't recognize that although he was a successful college player, he did not have the skills to make it as a pro The same may be true for Brown.

As noted above, Brown does not have stellar athleticism or size. In some respects he is a savvy player with good court vision, but those skills too frequently disconnect during games. His assist to turnover ratio is not outstanding. He is not an extraordinary ballhandler.

He might be drafted in the second round and pick up several hundred dollars over the next year, but he can do that well or better next season as a graduating senior who likely will be an All American and an Academic All American leader of what possibly could be a very good Longhorn team.

I agree with what most everyone is saying about Brown. Barnes should sit both Brown and Kabongo down and tell them they are both not ready (not do the typical thing he does where he says it is up to them and to do what is best for them) and that they both have a chance to come back to Texas and do something really special for the team, for the school, and for the fans. Give them some sense of leadership/ownership that is so lacking in this program. We have no identity. Our identity in the last five years is K Durant, a guy that came for one year and got bounced in the second round of the tournament and now we live off of his NBA accomplishments.

Ford did that for Texas in 2003. I see a real opportunity for Kabongo and Brown to do that this year. But they are going to have to own it and have a coach tell them that is what they need to do (both personally and professionally).

[And I am cognizant of the fact that this is the young men's choice for themselves and their family, but I think this goes above and beyond that. This is about the school. For once, put the school first.]

Brown doesn't seem like an NBA prospect at all to me, so I don't see why he would leave - it does nothing for him. Besides, isn't he our Academic All-American? Assuming he's reasonably intelligent, staying and getting a degree is probably his best option, because it doesn't seem like he's going to make a career out of basketball.

Yeah, you're probably right. I didn't go back and check and couldn't remember if James, Mouton, Boddicker, Ivey, etc., had more years. I'm guessing Ford's senior year would have been without most of those?

I thought TJ got hurt originally in a pick up game at the annexes at Gregory. The injury revealed that he had some sort of a spinal condition all along but nobody knew about.

He said he wanted to return for one more year at Texas, but Barnes said with the condition he had and that he could have another career ending injury at any time. So he convinced TJ to go pro and get the money while he still the chance to do so.

busterbrown, you are correct in that Barnes should do that, try to influence them. Unfortunately, you're asking Barnes to do something that it seems he has never done before. It seems as if he encourages the guys to go pro.

I would love for Brown to come back, but you guys are incredibly optimistic, and I just don't share that feeling about Brown. I think he goes pro, gets 2nd round money, bounces around the NBA and plays in Europe.
