Killeen 9,

i stayed through the 3rd.

He had some great plays (usually to WR #4 who was amazing)

He had some ugly plays:
after a decent rush, he fumbled, at the 5, into the endzone and the roos recovered.
He had two INTs. one was and tipped ball on a shovel pass and the other was a pass that he hesitated on and then underthrew. the guy was wide open and gilbert hesitated and then it was too late.

other than this, what i saw was a guy who was doing whatever the heck he wanted, whenever he wanted. he controlled the game as if it was practice and the other team wasn't allowed to stop him. one play he motioned to #4 and i told my girlfriend that this was going to be a long touchdown to #4 and sure enough 50+ yds, mostly in the air, for the touchdown. He also had several rushing TDs. I would say that he was responsible for 4 or 5 TD total. one of the best plays i saw was a two-point conversion early in the game. gilbert ran to the right, threw on the run, across his body, above two defenders and to the perfect spot for the receiver to get it at its highest point. probably the best throw i saw all day.

i also noticed that this guy is a man among boys out there. a sure sign of something special. He commanded the troops as if he'd been doing this for 20 years. they ran the set-and-look scheme that most college offenses are doing now so he should be used to that when he gets here.

he throws to the outside shoulder on sideline throws and he threw another pass short when the defender had his back turned that i thought was an upperclassmen-college-player type throw.

needless to say, i can't wait to see this guy on campus. he is going to be great.

4th and 18 is right on the money.

The shovel pass was bobbled and a killeen player came up with it. Hard to blame GG for that one. The deep pick was his fault. It was about 5 yards underthrown and prevented the wr for LT to knock it
down. He also went thru a 5 minute ineffective span in the second quarter. He was off target and on one play threw a dart to a wideout that should have been softer imo. That pass was also behind the wideout. Misfires like that one stood out because GG was in a zone.

Gilbert could do whatever whenever. His TD in the 3rd was simply amazing. He bought time with his feet and then rolled to his left. Flicked a bullet pass 35 yards to a wr and all of killeens defense just stops playing and lets the kid walk it in. His reads are unbelievable for a high school kid. He rarely missed an open player in this game. His future looks limitless. Can you tell he impressed me?

I thought he looked like a colt clone. LT runs the same spread offense and GG should transition well. He hits the inside screen that reminded me of Colt to shipley. He runs like colt also. He does not have the straight ahead speed but the reads and shiftiness are there. I can't wait to see the kid after maddog gets him.

I'm curious what you guys think of #4, Wr Cade McCrary. I had some UT fans behind me that were asking which D1 school he was going to. As far as I know, he isn't being recruited at all. He looks like Ship when he came out of HS - tall, fast, skinny with super hands. After a couple years with Mad Dog, I think McCrary would bulk up nicely. Just awesome hands.

Edited to add observation of irony that he is son of former UT coach. This would force them to be roommates, so that Musk-burger could make that observation ad infinitum.

I was thinking the same thing about #4 at the game. We need to get him and they need to be room mates.

Seriously though, I thought the guy was great. He made a sideline catch right in front of where i was seated and i think my jaw hit the ground. It seems like he and gilbert could read each other's minds.

Gilbert looked bigger than Colt to me. And his arm looked just as strong. Is #4 a Sr? He caught everything.

Killeen's QB was terrible. He was a RB playing QB. Is there a chance LT will play another playoff game at UT's field? I'd pay again to watch that offense operate. And to see the awesome cougar in the the stands.

I think they are playing at Aggy Field next week, vs Friends wood. I really don't think he will be a big running threat in college. He is big against high schoolers, but not really fast enough to be the runner that even colt is. Although even Colt admits he gained some speed since his Freshman year, so it is possible. Gilbert looks beefier than Colt did as a freshman, so hopefully when he gets knocked around, it won't be as bad.

anybody who gets 235 yds rushing in a high school playoff game must be able to run just a little bit. A slow guy isn't going to get 235 yards against any high school playoff team.

I remember McCrary from the televised Westlake game. I'd like to know more about him, too. The guy is a hell of a high school receiver.
