Kevin Shorter wavering

The sooner that a decision is made to replace this coaching staff the better. Until then, news like this will get more widespread.

Can you blame the kid... I would open my recruitment also if I was going to play just football. Now if I wanted an education and the ability to play.. then It wouldn't matter who the coach is.

Following Fri night game...Newton 22 - Kountze 20

My sister is retired school teacher at Newton and still lives there. After the game she wrote me this about Kevin.

Of course, his current situation goes beyond football. Hope that he recovers soon and can resume a healthy life....and maybe still play ball at UT.

HU, same promise was made to Tony Hills when it was unsure he'd ever play a down of football ever again. Mack reassured him his scholly was good at UT as it was offered to Tony Hills the young man, not the football player.

This is Mack's way and how he rolls. He's class while so many other coaches are ***.

I disagree with honoring a scholorship if he said he was reopening his recruitment and was now "keeping his options open". When he decommitted, which he did by making those statements, his scholorship should have been gone. "Sorry you decided to reopen your recruitment and got hurt, but best of luck with your college career".
We can then award the scholorship to a player that wants to play for and attend the University of Texas.

For what it is worth, that type of scholarship (injured while committed) does not count against annual or total scholarship limits.

I hope KS recovers and has a great college career with the Horns.

Definitely don't want to be insensitive about his injury with any of what I'm about to say. I hope he has a speedy recovery and returns back to 100% health regardless of choices he makes for his future.

Regarding football, sounds to me like KS is well aware Mack is likely getting the boot. He likely committed to the school AND Mack as a package above all other suitors. Now that half of that package may change drastically, KS reportedly decided to take a look around for alternatives if the new coach is someone he just doesn't want to play for. IMHO, if Mack stayed I'm sure KS would honor his pledge. He's just covering bases in case a really bad scenario went down.

What if the new coach was Lane Kiffin (JUST SAYING)? Some prick you don't want to be coached by during your one and only college football experience. Wouldn't you like to have plenty of firsthand info on the best alternative to head to after that change goes down?

From what I've heard of him (one of his current coaches), he's a great kid with solid character. Probably was just being honest about being prepared if Mack is booted and the new guy isn't what he had in mind at all. Nothing wrong with that.

I'll make a call in the next few days and see what the real scoop is. The coach I refer to is my lifelong friend and basically like a brother, he'll give me the real heads up. Just didn't feel it was appropriate to ask all that just after the kid suffered a serious injury.
