Kettlebells?

Mine got stolen this weekend.
Anyone know where you can buy these in Austin besides Academy? Or does anyone have some they want to sell?

Note: Not interested in anyone's opinion on whether they like Kettlebells or not. I've already lost 65 pounds with them and them only, so I'm sold.

This is where I got mine.

Who the hell steals kettlebells? That's right up there with keying a car. Whoever it is, I hope they tear a rotator cuff.

Edit: Just noticed you said "in Austin." The site I linked shipped it out pretty quick if you can wait.

Fluff, I'm sure Rocky can jump in with a more detailed response, but for the time being, there's a lot of youtube videos with them. You can check some of them out to get an idea of how to use them.

Rocky, How/why were they stolen???

you lose weight by like...kinda lifting them and stuff

the last thread on these had me all excited to go get them. i looked at them and thought, they cannot be that good. they're dumbbells for cyring out loud!! do you have to buy the cd training thingy to maximize their benefit? i mean, they look so darn plain!

Admiral,

They aren't dumbbells, they're kettlebells--totally different things. Trust me, perform a workout using these and you will be smoked.

A workout with them is much more productive than cattle balls. aggy friends will disagree.

I second that whoever stole them deserves a rotator cuff injury.

subliminal,
i remember everyone posting all of these different training programs. do you have one in particular to recommend?

Not really. The beauty of kettlebells is that they are very easy to use and can be implemented with a variety of programs. Just google workout programs for them and you'll find a bunch of different ones.

The most basic being swings, cleans, snatch, etc.

They were stolen from my garage. I mean, they're heavy, and I only use them in the garage, so I didn't misplace them. Six months ago a neighbor of mine had his dumbbells stolen from his garage. I don't know, I guess there'a guy out there dedicated to fitness but refuses to pay for his own ****?

I used Pavel Tsatsouline's Enter the Kettlebell. If you don't know who he is, google him. He's a Russian who used to train the Soviet Army but now trains US Special Forces. Anyway, I started these things things in January, weighing 299, today I'm at 234. The kettlebell swing I believe is most effective fat loss exercise out there.

I can't possibly recommend these things enough.

I wonder if that dude who stole yours may try to sell them to Play It Again? Contact them and have them informed ahead of time. Did you fill out a police incident report? If you did and inform PIAG Sports, they may do something since they know the cops are in on this.

I've seen some seriously buff homeless people around downtown when I worked down there. I always wondered what they did to stay in shape, and now I know...

What is the best weight to start off with? That one guy says 36#, that seems pretty heavy for my wimpy body....

...and how often does one have to upgrade in weight? That has to get costly, no? I know it depends on ones workout schedule and progress but in your opinion (OP) how long did it take you to move up each time.

Or are there exercises you can still use the lower ones for? Did you sell your lower ones when you out muscled them?

I just bought some today from Play it Again and they were a decent deal. The problem with buying them online is the shipping costs.

If you've never done them before, one is fine for until you get the feel. You can two handed exercises. But many of the workouts involve two kettlebells, so you really need two.

Loop - I started out on 25 and now do 55 (which is the weight I bought today at PIAS). I probably could have moved up faster, but the guy I occasionally train with told me to wait and perfect the form on each weight before moving up. Plus, there's a wide range of exercises you can do, so I waited til they were all easy before moving up.

Most people probably move up faster.

I kept the 25 pounders because they're a good warm up, and good to practice form on when you get a new exercise. As far as cost, if you move up, you can sell them on Craigslist or PIAS to offset. I sold my 35 pounders to a friend. Plus, they were pretty reasonable at Play it Again. Not as cheap as I thought, but much cheaper than Academy or Target. You can find them cheaper online, but once you factor in shipping costs for the weight, it get expensive.

That makes total sense on weights and what to do when you move up or when you move on. Thanks.
